Generation 2.0 of the Schreiber D-12 clarinet

The tone hole network has been optimised in the Generation 2.0 clarinets from Schreiber. This significantly improves intonation balance and reduces blowing resistance.

The modified positioning of the keys not only improves the fit of the keys on the body, but also guarantees optimum coverage of the tone holes. In addition to the optimised inner bore, which creates less resistance in the instrument and an even air flow thanks to the smooth transition from the lower joint to the cup, the new cup shape with thicker walls is primarily responsible for the fuller sound and greater projection.

The overall package of predominantly acoustic innovations is visually rounded off by the perfected surface treatment, which brings out the fine wood grain of the new generation of W. Schreiber clarinets to optimum effect.

The Schreiber children's clarinet in Bb has been specially developed for children with small hands. The child-friendly mechanism is adapted to the small span of children's hands and thus enables effortless and relaxed playing of the instrument. Thanks to the Bb tuning, it is possible to change to a traditional Bb clarinet at a later date without having to change listening habits. In addition, the student can easily play the Bb clarinet part in an ensemble. This clarinet is therefore particularly recommended for "class music-making with wind instruments".

Body:

As with all models, only selective wood is used in the manufacture of the body. Before processing, the grenadilla is stored for several years to prevent it from cracking later on. The individual components are then manufactured (pears, top piece, bottom piece, cup). After the wood has been in a long oil bath, the absorbed oil is "preserved" in the wood with paraffin. The wood is then stored again for a longer period and then finished by experienced employees.

Finally, a thorough final inspection is carried out. The instrument is visually inspected for defects. After passing the visual inspection, the clarinet is played to ensure that every D-12 produced has excellent intonation.

Mechanics:

The action of the D-12 has been reduced to the essentials in order to keep the weight down and thus achieve greater playing comfort. The action is made of nickel silver. This robust material guarantees a long service life and unadulterated playing pleasure. The surface of the mechanism is also extra silver-plated. The adjustable thumb rest is also made of nickel silver and then silver-plated in the same way.

Sound and response:

The well-balanced tonal character and easy response ensure quick learning success and thus provide additional motivation for beginners. Excellent intonation is reflected across the entire register and promotes ear training right from the start.

There are two trills (Bb and C) on the upper joint, whereby the Bb key and the Bb trill have a common tone hole and are therefore connected to each other. There are additional resonance holes on the third ring of the upper joint for purely tuned e'/a'' and on the first ring of the lower joint for purely tuned c'/g''. The tone hole for b'/f-sharp'', which is moved to the outside, is covered with an additional side flap.

Case and accessories:

The equipment includes a specially developed Schreiber mouthpiece for Bb clarinet. The handy gig bag case in a fashionable design offers optimum protection when transporting the instrument.

Above all, the feeling of being able to grasp and play all notes with ease right from the start makes making music with the D12 a playful pleasure. The mechanics of the clarinet tuned in Bb have therefore been adapted to small hands.
