About Slash
Slash, whose real name is Saul Hudson, was born in London and grew up in England. After he started out playing an electric bass but quickly gave it up, he received his first acoustic guitar at the age of 15, on which he learned to play. His earliest musical influences came from guitarists such as Rory Gallagher, Van Halen, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix and Jeff Beck, but also from rock bands like Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Queen and Aerosmith. After dropping out of school he moved to Los Angeles and met drummer Steven Adler, with whom he founded the band Road Crew. After Slash and Adler received a demo from guitarist Izzy Stradlin that also featured Axl Rose as vocalist, the musicians agreed to meet. Stradlin and Rose were having trouble keeping their own band Hollywood Rose together. However, after their first joint performances both bands merged to form Guns N’ Roses and became hugely successful.
In 1996 Slash left Guns N’ Roses after tensions with Axl Rose and the other band members and subsequently played guitar with Velvet Revolver as well as Slash’s Snakepit. In 2010 he released his first solo album Slash, which was followed by four more solo albums. Rolling Stone placed him at number 65 on the list of the 100 greatest guitarists of all time.
Les Paul fan through and through
Slash is an avowed fan and endorser of the brand Gibson and prefers to play guitars of the Les Paul Standard type. His years of experience and distinctive style have also earned him several signature models from Gibson, such as his Les Paul Standard Goldtop called Victoria. There are also Slash models from the subsidiary Epiphone , all of them Les Pauls and available at much lower prices.
Now Gibson follows up with the Slash Les Paul Standard Jessica, which, just like the Victoria model, is modelled on one of Slash’s personal favourite guitars. Slash plays this model both live and in the studio.
Jessica - Slash's faithful partner for more than 35 years
Jessica has been Slash's main stage guitar since 1988. The original Jessica was one of two Les Paul guitars Gibson sent Slash in the late '80s. It has a three-piece maple top on a mahogany body and neck with a 50s vintage neck profile. Jessica is powered by a pair of Gibson Custom Burstbucker pickups with Alnico 2 magnets, which were hand-wired with Orange Drop capacitors. Originally a bright Cherry Sunburst, Slash had Jessica refinished, which is reflected in the new model's glossy nitrocellulose lacquer Honey Burst with Red Back. Slash’s signature is pictured on the truss rod cover, and Schaller Strap Locks come pre-installed on the guitar. Other extras include a Slash pick set, a Gibson leather strap made in USA, a multi-tool and a truss rod cover without a signature in the supplied hardshell case.

The American Gibson Guitar Corporation, founded in 1902 by Orville Gibson in Kalamazoo, Michigan, first became known for the production of mandolins and banjos. Today the company’s headquarters are in Nashville, Tennessee, and Gibson is one of the world’s most renowned and respected manufacturers of electric guitars.
The model Les Paul, named after its creator Lester William Polsfuss, is one of the most famous and best‑selling electric guitar shapes of all time and established the single‑cut guitar form, which has been copied, adopted and reinterpreted by numerous other manufacturers. The Les Paul is mainly prized for its sound, characterised as warm and full. The humbucker pickup largely responsible for that sound, in its now common design, was developed by Seth Lover at Gibson.
In the early 1960s the Gibson SG appeared as another solid‑body electric from Gibson. Originally intended as the successor to the Les Paul, it became — helped by Angus Young of AC/DC — another rock‑history icon and is the basis for the double‑cutaway guitar type.
With the Flying V and the Explorer Gibson is responsible for two body shapes that, although they were far ahead of their time when introduced in the late 1950s, have over the years also achieved legendary status. They still serve as the foundation for a host of heavy guitars today, for example from makers such as Jackson or ESP.
The Gibson Custom Shop produces custom orders, high‑quality one‑offs and precise replicas of famous models and legendary instrument years. These are often subjected to an artificial ageing process called relicing.
Almost as long as the company has existed, acoustic guitars have also been produced. The J‑45, the Hummingbird, the L‑00 and the SJ‑200 are among the world’s most beloved steel‑string acoustics and were the instruments of choice for Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley and John Lennon.
Besides the instruments already mentioned, you can of course also buy picks, bags and cases or merchandise from Gibson with us.
We are particularly proud to host a Gibson Flagship Store in our Frankfurt branch. There you’ll find not only a large selection and exclusive models to try out in person, but you’ll also benefit from the expertise of our Gibson‑trained and certified staff when choosing the perfect guitar.
