About Slash

Slash, whose real name is Saul Hudson, was born in London and grew up in England. After he initially started playing electric bass but quickly gave it up, he received his first acoustic guitar at the age of 15, on which he learned to play. His earliest influences came from guitarists such as Rory Gallagher, Van Halen, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix and Jeff Beck, as well as rock bands like Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Queen and Aerosmith. After leaving school he moved to Los Angeles and met drummer Steven Adler, with whom he formed the band Road Crew. When Slash and Adler received a demo from guitarist Izzy Stradlin that also featured Axl Rose on vocals, the musicians arranged a meeting. Stradlin and Rose had trouble keeping their own band Hollywood Rose together. After their first joint performances, both bands merged to form Guns N’ Roses and became hugely successful.

In 1996 Slash left Guns N’ Roses after tensions with Axl Rose and the other band members and afterwards played guitar with Velvet Revolver as well as Slash’s Snakepit. In 2010 he released his first solo album Slash, followed by four more solo albums. Rolling Stone ranked him at number 65 on the list of the 100 greatest guitarists of all time.

The Gibson Les Paul Slash Collection

To honour the long-standing work of the Guns N’ Roses guitarist, Gibson brings out a signature model in his honour.  This instrument is an icon of the Les Paul guitars with which Slash rocks stadiums around the world. It captures the warmth, sustain and crunch that are his trademarks. This guitar features a mahogany body with a Top of AAA flamed maple and a Rounded C neck profile in the style of the 1950s. On the back of the headstock there is a "Skully" drawing by Slash. Two Gibson Custom BurstBucker Alnico 2 pickups provide plenty of sustain and the original Gibson sound. With colour-matched hardware, two stunning finishes and Slash-approved Ernie Ball strings as well as Jim Dunlop Tortex picks, you're ready for the stage the moment you open the brown vintage case.

About Gibson

The American Gibson Guitar Corporation, founded in 1902 by Orville Gibson in Kalamazoo, Michigan, first became known for the production of mandolins and banjos. Today the company’s headquarters are in Nashville, Tennessee, and Gibson is one of the world’s most renowned and respected manufacturers of electric guitars.

The model Les Paul, named after its creator Lester William Polsfuss, is one of the most famous and best‑selling electric guitar shapes of all time and established the single‑cut guitar form, which has been copied, adopted and reinterpreted by numerous other manufacturers. The Les Paul is mainly prized for its sound, characterised as warm and full. The humbucker pickup largely responsible for that sound, in its now common design, was developed by Seth Lover at Gibson.

In the early 1960s the Gibson SG appeared as another solid‑body electric from Gibson. Originally intended as the successor to the Les Paul, it became — helped by Angus Young of AC/DC — another rock‑history icon and is the basis for the double‑cutaway guitar type.

With the Flying V and the Explorer Gibson is responsible for two body shapes that, although they were far ahead of their time when introduced in the late 1950s, have over the years also achieved legendary status. They still serve as the foundation for a host of heavy guitars today, for example from makers such as Jackson or ESP.

The Gibson Custom Shop produces custom orders, high‑quality one‑offs and precise replicas of famous models and legendary instrument years. These are often subjected to an artificial ageing process called relicing.

Almost as long as the company has existed, acoustic guitars have also been produced. The J‑45, the Hummingbird, the L‑00 and the SJ‑200 are among the world’s most beloved steel‑string acoustics and were the instruments of choice for Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley and John Lennon.

Besides the instruments already mentioned, you can of course also buy picks, bags and cases or merchandise from Gibson with us.

We are particularly proud to host a Gibson Flagship Store in our Frankfurt branch. There you’ll find not only a large selection and exclusive models to try out in person, but you’ll also benefit from the expertise of our Gibson‑trained and certified staff when choosing the perfect guitar.
