Timeless tonewoods for traditional sound
The Modern Black's remarkable acoustic sound starts with Cort's premium tonewoods. The Modern Black combines a European spruce top (soundboard) with mahogany back and sides – a timeless recipe for warm lows, rich and complex mids and detailed highs. Fitted with a walnut-reinforced mahogany neck and a fretboard, bridge and bridge pins made from ebony, the Modern Black is an excellent expression of guitar craftsmanship with a modern, unconventional character.
Concert body redefined
Inspired by the Grand Concert body shape popular with players, the Modern Concert body shape gives the Modern Black a comfortably compact playing feel without sacrificing tonal complexity. With a fuller, more powerful tone than you'd expect from a smaller body, the Modern Concert redefines how a small-body guitar can sound.

Instead of a soundhole in the top, the Modern Black's innovative design features two side-mounted sound openings. Because the sound is directed towards your ears, you can hear every nuance of your technique, even when you play quietly. These unconventional soundholes are not only a bold visual statement, they also allow the European spruce top to vibrate more naturally and thus deliver a fuller acoustic tone. The Modern Black features hand-rolled fret edges and a chamfered armrest for the most comfortable playing experience you can imagine. The chamfered armrest gives your right arm just the right support, whether you're sitting or standing.

For maximum tuning stability and modern precision, the Modern Black is equipped with Gotoh 510Z gold tuning machines. With their ultra-precise 21:1 ratio these tuners feel solid and ultra-smooth at the same time. The elegant and slim Modern Black will make you smile from the first moment.
Hand-rolled fret edges
The shape and treatment of a guitar's frets have a big impact on comfort and playability. Most guitar makers simply bevel the frets at both ends to remove sharp edges. Boutique acoustic guitar builders use a different method to round their frets so they feel and play comfortably.

To accurately reproduce your acoustic tone when it's time to plug in, the Modern Black is fitted with Fishman Matrix Infinity VT electronics. Volume and tone controls mounted at the soundhole let you shape your sound quickly and easily.
