China Cymbals

The China Cymbal is an exception in cymbal family as its cymbal shape is different. The China Cymbal is substantially different from the other cymbals. A special feature is the curved top edge. Often, the dome has a different shape. It is similar to that of a cylinder. The sound of the China cylinder is a crash very similar to other cymbals, but it sounds a bit messy and perhaps more aggressive. China cymbals are often used for short explosive accents. In some music stems (eg in the metal sector) the China Cymbal is often used as a substitute Ride Cymbal. Typical sizes range from 14" to 24".
