The company Focal is a French business based in Saint‑Étienne. What began in 1979 in a small workshop with only two employees as a medium‑sized family firm specialising in precision mechanics developed into the design and manufacture of high‑quality Hi‑Fi audio systems for the home and the car, studio monitors and headphones.
With the clear aim of positioning itself in the high‑end market, the company developed numerous patents over the years, earning it a strong reputation among Hi‑Fi enthusiasts in the fields of Hi‑Fi speakers and car audio. The luxury loudspeaker models of the "Utopia" series marked a turning point in the company's history in 1995. Those Hi‑Fi speakers redefined the limits of acoustics and set new standards for future generations of loudspeakers.
Driven by their recipe for success, the company went a step further in the 2000s, adding aesthetics to their creative approach. They managed to combine appealing industrial design with technological aspects without sacrificing the much‑admired sound quality.
In 2002 another division was added to the successful company's product portfolio. The "Focal Professional" division was created and from then on focused on the development and manufacture of studio monitors for recording studios.
As is typical for Focal, it did not take long before the new studio monitor division was praised in the highest terms by professionals and audio engineers.
As the cherry on top, Focal was honoured in 2014 with a special distinction: it was awarded the label “Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant” (Living Heritage Company) by the French state. "Made in France" remains Focal's philosophy to this day and the perfect solution to consolidate the design, development and manufacture of its high‑end products at a single location.
After successes in home and car audio and the studio monitor division — which currently gives us the "Shape" series as well as the completion of the popular "Alpha Evo" series with the complementary subwoofer "Sub One" — FOCAL continued innovating to tackle further trends in music listening.
The product range was expanded to include high‑fidelity and high‑quality studio headphones such as the Focal Clear Professional and the Focal Clear MG Professional .
It will be exciting to see how Focal's French success story continues.
