The Shure Beta 87A is one of the first choice microphones among entertainers worldwide. It’s a high end electret condenser microphone characterised with a smooth frequency response delivering extremely clear vocals. Its supercardioid pickup pattern isolates the individual instrument or voice that is to be miked from other sound sources which makes it ideally suited for applications involving high levels of background noise and/ or reverberation. In addition it provides excellent feedback rejection.
The integral high-pass filters out unwanted low-frequency signals if required and the built-in 3-stage popfilter reduces wind and breath “pop” noise. Its rugged construction ensures trouble-free operation even in case of rough handling. The Beta 87A features an advanced cartridge shock-mount system which absorbs mechanical shocks and reduces handling noise. What are handheld vocal microphones?
Microphones that you hold in your hands while performing are considered as handheld vocal microphones. These microphones have to fulfil certain criteria. They need to offer high feedback-rejection and most of them feature cardioid, supercardioid or hypercardioid polar patterns. In addition they are required to provide a rugged construction, full bass and crispy highs. Their frequency response is usually tailored, because these microphones are designed for vocal pickup. Models featuring a pronounced proximity effect are frequently used. When choosing a mic, you should also make sure that wind and breath "pop" noise as well as handling noise are sufficiently suppressed.
Beta Microphones are quality microphones which are matched up for a detailed reproduction even in acoustically challenging environments. Precise and focused on specific applications the frequencies are chosen for better presence and subtleties in sound.
You will find Beta microphones in the racks of the most respected engineers in the industry, at home and on tour with the biggest bands in the music scene. The Beta series offers proven equipment, with unique robustness.
