The company Markbass is an Italian firm that specialises in the manufacture of electric bass amplifiers. The brand was founded in 2001 by Marco De Virgiliis in Italy. Marco was born in 1963 and was already fascinated by music and electronics in his earliest childhood. His passion resulted, at the age of six, in a self-built loudspeaker cabinet.
Driven by his curiosity and the need to create something new, he founded his first company called Parsek in 1996. Since then Parsek has been involved in the development and manufacture of electric bass amplifiers.
At the same time it became clear that the bass world was changing. The electric bass evolved – thanks to new playing techniques, multi-scale technology and 5- and 6-string instruments – from a supporting instrument to an independent instrument increasingly in the spotlight. For Marco and his team it was therefore only natural that bass amplifiers had to follow this development.
With a small, enthusiastic team Marco gained experience and developed first prototypes. In April 2001 his collection of ideas became the company Markbass we know today.
Markbass was the first company to install neodymium speakers in their amplifiers. They delivered not only "the true, uncoloured sound of a bass" but also made the bass amplifiers up to 50% lighter than ever before. The typical hallmark of Markbass amplifiers is still today the yellow-and-black colour scheme of the bass amps and cabinets. From afar you can already spot the yellow speaker cones. Another particularity is still the extremely low weight of the cabinets. This can be attributed to the neodymium speakers and the small size of the heads. Thanks to built-in Class-D technology the products can be designed very compactly.
Since the company's foundation almost no year goes by without the company being showered with awards for its products. This superiority has become well known and has ensured that for many artists, such as Markus Miller, Mark Egan, Randy Jackson, Reggie Washington and others, the various bass amplifiers and cabinets from Markbass are the first choice.
As development never stands still and founder Marco simply can't help himself, in 2022 he once again turned the bass equipment market on its head with his new MB58R series. With his new series the founder has again managed to reduce the weight of his products, especially in the speaker area, and what's more, it also helps protect the environment. In the production of the new series in ultra-lightweight construction care was taken that all parts and components are of local manufacture – Made in Italy and are 100% from environmentally friendly sources.
