THE ARTICULATION SENSOR SYSTEM
As with all AvantGrand models, the new NU1XA features a real piano action. In addition it incorporates our newly developed Articulation Sensor System, which precisely and continuously captures the subtlest nuances of the pianist using non-contact electromagnetic sensors and Yamaha's proprietary algorithm. This system uses two separate sensors on each key: one for the hammer – the most important part of the acoustic piano sound mechanism – and the other for the key itself, to accurately measure the release motion of the fingers and articulate the special nuances as the sound decays.
GRANDTOUCH PEDALS
A grand's damper pedal responds with a slightly different resistance to the player's foot. The GrandTouch pedals feature a pivot structure similar to that of a grand and deliver the same expressive and familiar feel when pressing the pedal, thereby expanding the expressive range.
ENHANCED PIANO SOUND
With the NU1XA you can play the voices of the CFX, Yamaha's flagship concert grand and the first choice at competitions worldwide, and the warm tones of the Bösendorfer Imperial grand on a single instrument.

The richness of the NU1XA's sound is not based solely on great piano samples. It also uses unique technologies to deliver expressive power.
The Grand Expression Modeling technology accurately simulates the complex interaction between player and instrument, reproducing the limitless tonal variety of a grand piano.
Virtual Resonance Modeling (VRM) reproduces the extraordinarily complex resonances of a grand piano, generated by the sympathetic vibrations of the strings and soundboard, faithfully reproduced.
RESONANCE THAT FILLS THE ROOM LIKE A GRAND
To authentically recreate this unique grand piano experience, the NU1XA features a new sound system. It includes upward-facing woofers that put the entire instrument into deep resonance and tweeters with a newly designed horn structure that blend three-dimensionally with the front and back in the high frequencies.
BEST SOUND, EVEN WITH HEADPHONES
By using special microphones placed at the player's position when recording the piano samples, Binaural Sampling technology effectively recreates the feeling of hearing an acoustic piano in front of you while you play. This technology has been used for both the Yamaha CFX and the Bösendorfer Imperial voices.
NEW DESIGN AND USER INTERFACE
With graceful curves from the cheek blocks to the legs, the NU1XA conveys timeless beauty while also exuding the elegance of an acoustic piano. The NU1XA also features a beautiful, discreet touch control panel through which you can easily operate various basic instrument functions. When not in use, the control panel switches off automatically and becomes visually invisible.
