The traditional JAVA design
Vandoren developed the JAVA reeds in 1983 for jazz and pop music. A larger embouchure and a more flexible reed tip than the traditional reed allow vibrations on a larger surface with maximum flexibility. The spur is the zone in which the waves with the largest wavelength range propagate. From the tip, the waves are further absorbed in the JAVA blade. This kind of "backbone" gives the musician more flexibility when playing, as the resulting elasticity range is very wide. JA stands for Jazz, VA for Varieté (light music) and of course for... Vandoren.
Vandoren JAVA RED Series
The JAVA "Filed - Red Cut" design evolved from the desire to open up new tonal possibilities for the musician while retaining the qualities of the Java design. More flexible than its predecessor and with a little more core in the tone, the JAVA "Filed - Red Cut" offers a full, rich, centred sound with excellent projection and extremely precise response.
Uniform strength
All Vandoren reeds are tested and sorted using highly sensitive electronic measuring instruments. This provides the greatest possible certainty that the contents of a pack do not vary in thickness.
Protection
Each Vandoren reed is delivered individually shrink-wrapped in a protective film to prevent damage. This gives it the same properties as if it had come straight from production.

Since 1905 the Paris-based company Vandoren has been selling high-quality reeds for clarinet and saxophone, as well as mouthpieces and accessories. Eugène van Doren, the founder, was a clarinettist himself and knew exactly what mattered in reed production. He soon manufactured not only for himself and his colleagues but for clarinet and saxophone players around the world, producing reeds in industrial quantities with machines he developed himself. His son and grandson continued the business and made it the trusted brand that wind players still rely on today when searching for the perfect sound.
