The Sandberg California LY bass is a signature model from Beatsteaks bassist Torsten Scholz, who owns several Sandberg basses. Now Sandberg has built his very own signature model, and it’s impressive. The alder body finished in Letterbox Yellow shows honest playwear and looks very authentic. Fitted to it is a six‑bolt maple neck. The fretboard is also maple to ensure quick response and added brightness. Visually it’s rounded off by pearloid block inlays and a matched headstock. The pickups — in this case two Seymour Duncan SJB2s — are recessed into the body at special positions, resulting in a balanced tonal picture. A slightly unusual but perfectly sensible modification has been made on this California bass: the strings are routed through the body. This increases pressure on the bridge and allows the strings’ vibration to be transferred better to the whole body. Both visually and technically this Sandberg bass makes an excellent impression and is supplied in a proper Sandberg gigbag. Sandberg California TSBS LY:
