Classic SPD-20 sounds - and more
With the SPD-20, countless musicians found a fully-fledged instrument whose versatile soundset they could rely on at all times in their performances. The OCTAPAD SPD-20 PRO contains every single sound of the original and expands it with an impressive collection of new sounds. In addition, each individual instrument can be assigned an EQ, compressor and three integrated effect engines - each with 38 multi-effect types - which further expands the sound possibilities.
Authentic sounds from all over the world
The new sounds of the OCTAPAD SPD-20 PRO give musicians all the options they need in modern live performance and studio settings. The high-quality sampled sounds allow percussionists to play Asian, African, Latin American and other musical styles from all over the world. The OCTAPAD SPD-20 PRO also offers traditional drum kit sounds, including high-end acoustic drums and cymbals from the TD-27 V-Drums sound module. A total of more than 900 instruments are available for your musical journeys of discovery.
Real-time sound processing for expressive performances
The OCTAPAD SPD-20 PRO has 100 great preset kits just waiting to be played by you. What's more, you can customise the kits down to the last detail to suit your individual preferences and musical styles. The backlit LCD display and direct access buttons allow you to edit instrument sounds in real time as you play. You can also use the pad link function to assign up to four sounds to each individual pad to create exciting new sounds and textures. You can also use the kit chain function to align kits to your setlist and quickly call up the right kit during a performance.
Far more than just eight pads
In addition to the eight velocity-sensitive, rubberised pads, the OCTAPAD SPD-20 PRO has four dual trigger inputs and a separate control input for the hi-hat. This allows you to build an extended percussion setup and integrate the optional Roland trigger pads into your kit, including V-Pad Mesh Heads, V-Cymbals and the BT-1 Bar Trigger Pad. By connecting a Roland kick pad and a hi-hat control pedal, your OCTAPAD SPD-20 PRO transforms into a powerful mini drum kit with a robust feel and continuous open/close transitions on the hi-hat sounds.

Roland was founded as a manufacturer of various musical instruments and studio equipment on 18 April 1972 in Osaka, Japan. Among the earliest products to reach the market were the first rhythm machines of the TR series, whose successors TR-808, TB-303 and TR-909 had a decisive influence on the techno, electro and hip-hop scenes. In the mid-1970s the JC-120 Jazz Chorus guitar amplifier was developed, whose ultra-clear sound together with the built-in chorus effect won over both Andy Summers of The Police and Kirk Hammett and James Hetfield of Metallica. Since then and to this day Roland have continuously expanded their catalogue across a wide range of fields such as digital pianos, grooveboxes, e-drums and synthesizers with high-quality and interesting products.
