The ARC USB is connected to the computer via USB and communicates directly with TotalMix FX. It is equipped with 15 freely assignable, illuminated buttons, an encoder wheel and a jack plug for connecting a footswitch.
The ARC USB is a USB 1.1 MIDI remote control for the Fireface UFX+, UFX II and UFX III. As it works as a UAC 1 class device, it is natively compatible with Windows and Mac OS X. As soon as it is registered in the operating system, the ARC USB is automatically recognised by TotalMix FX and communication for controlling the UFX+ takes place via simple MIDI commands.
ARC USB on the UFX+ / UFX II / UFX III in stand-alone mode
In stand-alone mode of the Fireface UFX+ / UFX II / UFX III, the buttons of the ARC USB are permanently programmed to the following functions:
- Row 1: Setup 1-4
- Row 2: Setup 5-6 x x
- Row 3: Mono, Volume Phones 1, Volume Phones 2, DIM
- Buttons at the bottom: DURec: Rec, Play/Pause, Stop

In the display of the UFX+ / UFX II / UFX III, the type of operation of the ARC USB can be configured for stand-alone mode. The options can be found under SETUP/REV, Options, Hardware/Diagnosis:
Standalone ARC Volume
Deactivates all buttons. Only the rotary encoder works, permanently assigned to Main Volume. This option is also a safety function in the event that the ARC USB is connected to the UFX+ / UFX II / UFX III but is operated online (with computer). If the system goes offline (computer is removed, sleep mode...), the meanings of the buttons change because there is a change from online to stand-alone mode, which could trigger unwanted functions or changes when pressed.
Standalone ARC 1 s op
Each button must be pressed for one second for the underlying function to be triggered. This safety function prevents accidental adjustments. It can be saved in the setups so that the mode is automatically activated when such a setup is called up. If a setup is loaded in which this mode is not active, the function is automatically switched off on the UFX+ / UFX II / UFX III.
