This Spring drum measures 7 inches by 2 inches. The drums in this series are some of the latest in remo's fascinating world percussion collection. Remo Spring drums are a cross between a cuica, a thunder sheet, a suspended cymbal roll, and the roar of a lion. The sound is generated by moving the drum so that the vibrations of a spring are transmitted to the head.
Acousticon? What is it?
Acousticon is a special material developed and patented by Remo / USA. It is an artificial composite material made from natural components, namely wood and resin.
In the production of Acousticon, the mixture of wood fibres is processed into wide, thin strips, similar to paper production, and stored on rolls. A special machine later wraps this material extremely tightly around a dummy. This creates seamless drum boilers. The shell is then pulled over a moulded part and shaped into the desired form using heat and pressure. This is how congas, djembéns or the simple straight shell of a bass drum are created. Shell diameters from 8" to 40" and shell depths of up to 80" are no problem at all. To give the shell the desired sound quality and durability that characterises Acousticon, it is impregnated with resin in a special heat treatment process.
