Pioneer DJ PLX-CRSS12

Pioneer DJ presents the first professional digital-analogue hybrid turntable, the PLX-CRSS12. This groundbreaking turntable is the world’s first to provide both DVS control of digital music via DJ software and analogue playback of vinyl records, helping you take performances to the next level.

If you use the PLX-CRSS12 in DVS mode with Serato DJ Pro or rekordbox, you’ll never have to worry about a skipping needle again. Thanks to the tonearm-less playback you can scratch a real analogue record as hard as you like without fear of missing a beat. And if you want to play a record in the conventional way, simply switch the turntable to Analog mode and use the tonearm as usual.

Whatever way you like to work with your turntables, the PLX-CRSS12 adapts to your style. Using the dial on the supplied MAGVEL CLAMP you can easily set how “heavy” or “light” the record feels. In the utility settings you can also change the turntable’s torque. There are three stop speeds to choose from via a switch on the front of the unit.

At first glance it’s clear that the PLX-CRSS12 is designed for smooth scratching and intuitive operation. Look closer and you’ll find new features that open up even more control and creativity. The battle-style layout provides plenty of space for scratching, and there are four MIDI-assignable performance pads. The OLED display keeps all important information in view at all times.

Beyond the outstanding features, the PLX-CRSS12 also brings a number of new, hidden functions. Various components of the highly regarded PLX-1000 professional turntable have been improved to achieve the best analogue sound possible in a Pioneer DJ turntable.

Tonearm-less DVS control – no skipping needle during digital playback
No matter how hard you scratch, a skipping needle is a thing of the past thanks to the PLX-CRSS12’s tonearm-less system in Digital Vinyl mode. The new MAGVEL CLAMP keeps a vinyl firmly in place when you touch it. At the same time it directly controls digital music files, so you get a real vinyl feel – without having to use the tonearm. When playing analogue records the experience is the same as with the popular PLX-1000 turntable.

Tailor the feel to your style
Using the dial on top of the MAGVEL CLAMP you can find “your perfect” feel. The torque is increased or decreased so the vinyl feels lighter or heavier. There’s no need to change or adjust slipmats or slip-sheets. In addition, you can change the turntable’s torque in the utility settings. A front-mounted switch offers three selectable stop speeds.

Performance pads and OLED display: for precise, fast control
Alongside classic turntable layout elements, the PLX-CRSS12 also features four new MIDI-assignable performance pads so you always have your favourite functions to hand. The pads are located exactly where you need them – right under the platter. This lets you trigger hot-cues and samples faster than ever, which is particularly useful when performing on a mixer that has no pads. There is native support for various pad modes (see below), and a dedicated button lets you switch pad control from 1–4 to 5–8. Because the pads are MIDI-assignable, you can map them to other functions.

The built-in OLED display helps you stay focused on the turntable. It shows the tempo range and key when using step-pitching in either Analog or Digital Vinyl mode. In Digital Vinyl mode BPM, key, deck number info and the software in use are displayed. The display also provides quick access to the utility settings so you don’t have to look at your laptop or mixer during a performance.

Advanced sound quality
With the PLX-CRSS12 the audience hears the music as it’s meant to be heard. The turntable was carefully engineered to improve on the sound quality of the professional PLX-1000 DJ turntable, which is highly praised for its accurate sound reproduction. By using a switching power supply, vibration and interference from a transformer-type power supply are eliminated and unwanted noise suppressed. This results in high-resolution sound of the highest quality. As with the PLX-1000, the upper part of the chassis is made from solid die-cast zinc and the lower part from 8 mm thick resin, optimised for chassis structure and vibration-damping materials. The RCA connectors, as with the PLX-1000, use machined gold-plated parts to ensure the phono signal is transmitted directly over a reliable connection, reproducing the sound of analogue records in high quality.

The PLX-CRSS12 is compatible with Serato DJ Pro and rekordbox. Once you connect it to a PC/Mac running the DJ software and to a mixer that supports the DVS function of the respective DJ software, you can start playback in Digital Vinyl mode and use the performance pads.
