Performances will sound better than ever with the DJM-A9, as it takes the audio quality known from the DJM-900NXS2 to a new level.
This next-generation club sound is the result of extensive development and fine-tuning of technologies from previous models as well as brand-new components. The channel input section delivers crystal-clear, high-resolution sound thanks to a high-quality 32-bit A/D converter from ESS Technology. The master and booth output sections use high-quality 32-bit D/A converters from the same manufacturer so that what you hear over the booth monitors is the same sound the audience hears on the dancefloor. Even the sound quality of the microphone input and headphone outputs has been further improved through carefully selected new components and design optimisation.
Even better to play
The DJM-A9 feels like a musical instrument. The familiar DJM layout is complemented by revised controls and components, allowing precise mixing and instinctive scratching.
The increased spacing between the EQ knobs gives your fingers the room they need, and the high-quality, bright LEDs in the channel section make it easier than ever to see levels. Thanks to the frequency response of the isolators, optimised for modern music production, dynamic performances are effortless. The high-quality channel faders, which run even smoother than those on the DJM-900NXS2, and the MAGVEL FADER crossfader of the third generation make silk-smooth mixing and fast, reliable scratching a breeze.
World premiere: Sound-Color-FX with Center-Lock
When you activate the brand-new Center-Lock function of the Sound-Color-FX, each knob stops when it reaches the centre position. This lets you turn the knob as quickly as you like and set the effect up to the maximum of the Hi parameter or down to the minimum of the Low parameter without accidentally crossing into the opposite parameter. When Center-Lock is off, the Sound-Color-FX knobs behave the same as those on the DJM-900NXS2.
Newly developed Beat-FX
The Beat-FX section, a long-standing favourite feature of the DJM series, has been significantly improved for the DJM-A9. A new colour display helps you quickly and accurately recognise the status of the selected effect. It provides lighting that corresponds to the horizontal layout of the X-Pad, enabling more intuitive control with a simple finger motion. With the X-Pad you can modify the Echo and Ping Pong effects to create a unique, analogue tape-like sound. Among the total of 14 Beat effects there are three new ones to add extra variation to your performances:
Mobius: changes the oscillator frequency so that it steadily rises or falls in time with the beat.
Triplet-Filter: cyclically changes the filter's cut-off frequency according to the beat (based on three beats).
Triplet-Roll: repeatedly plays back the recorded sound according to the specified timing (based on three beats).
Even better: the channel select switch is now implemented as a dedicated button so you can quickly apply effects to the chosen channel.
Improved microphone section
As microphones become increasingly important for DJs — for example for live streams and club sets — the DJM-A9's microphone section has been reworked. It now offers more control and creativity for every performance. Thanks to phantom power, high-quality condenser microphones can be connected directly to the DJM-A9 — a feature never before seen on a DJ mixer. There are also three new microphone effects, including a dedicated hall effect to alter the character of a voice and really fire up the crowd with vocals:
Echo: repeats the delayed sound multiple times while attenuating it to create an echo effect.
Pitch: changes the pitch of the microphone signal.
Megaphone: emulates the sound of a megaphone.
The brand-new Push-to-Talk button switches the microphone input on and off directly when you want to speak to the audience. The mic signal can be excluded from the recording output if desired. This makes it possible to address the live audience while recording the mix without vocals.
Expanded connectivity
Two different PCs/Macs can be connected simultaneously via the USB Type-B and USB Type-C ports (two of each). Ideal for seamless DJ handovers or for two DJs mixing together. The Bluetooth input allows tracks from other devices, such as smartphones, to be sent wirelessly to the mixer. It can be routed to any channel on the DJM-A9. The audio tracks can then be easily integrated into a set and processed with all functions and effects. The multi I/O section has an independent channel select switch so that external effects can be used separately from Beat-FX. This gives the DJM-A9 a genuine send capability to route a sound processed with external effects like an RMX-1000 or a delay pedal to a separate channel instead of the original channel.
Two independent headphone outputs and Booth EQ
The DJM-A9 offers two headphone sockets each with their own cue buttons, volume controls and mix-balance controls. This lets two DJs listen to the desired channels simultaneously, making handovers or two-person mixing effortless. A 2-band booth EQ allows you to adjust highs and lows to complement the sound of the master output and match the feel in the booth to that on the dancefloor.
Support for the brand-new Stagehand app and built-in soundcheck function
The DJM-A9 is compatible with Stagehand (coming soon), the industry's first PRO DJ LINK remote-management app for front-of-house teams. With an iPad wirelessly connected to the mixer via a LAN router (sold separately), a sound engineer can, for example, see level meters and how a DJ is using the mixer's controls. This makes it easier to optimise the PA without disturbing DJs during their performance or entering the booth, resulting in smooth and impressive shows.
