While some turn water into wine, Fabrizio Paoletti concentrated on turning wine into musical instruments. To put it bluntly: Fabrizio produces from the wood of old wine barrels handcrafted electric guitars and electric basses.
But one thing at a time. Fabrizio Paoletti founded his company Paoletti Guitars in the year 2005. The company is based in Tuscany, where the Paoletti family have been producing Chianti red wines since the 19th century. To pay tribute to the old family tradition and to make optimal use of the available material, Paoletti used old wine barrels from the family business. The family’s wine barrels trace a tradition of between 130 and 170 years. After initial experiments with barrels made of chestnut wood, it soon became clear that this gives the instruments a special sound. Since then, the whole country – from the foothills of the Alps in the north down to the southern tip of the boot – has been searched for chestnut wine barrels that are no longer used for wine production.
Once the raw material has been found, Paoletti Guitars crafts great relic electric guitars by hand. Among the most popular are certainly the models Stratospheric and Nancy, whose guitar shapes are clearly inspired by the iconic Fender Stratocaster and Telecaster models.
