Legend
One of the many stories about this guitar series tells how Linda McCartney wanted to give her husband Paul an Ovation guitar for Christmas because he thought they were so great. In the end, an Ovation Legend ended up under the Christmas tree... in the left-handed version, of course.
When Ovation developed the Legend series, they were looking for a special sound concept that would allow the guitars to lose no energy in any frequency range. Full bass, clear highs, and strong mids.
A harmonious body—a tuned body.
As with all Ovation guitars, the hand-selected wood top is mounted on a Lyrychord® bowl. Since Lyrachord® resonates at a clearly defined frequency, the top could be designed to vibrate at a complementary frequency. The result is a "tuned" guitar body that produces a full, mellow sound.
An A for an X.
Most high-quality Ovation guitars use cross-braced reinforcement struts, known as "X-bracing," to stabilize the top. To better support the vibrational properties of the material, the Ovation Legend series features A-shaped bracing along the wood grain. This "A-bracing" significantly improves midrange and bass response and contributes to a balanced sound across all frequencies.

More than fifty years ago Charles Kaman brought his idea of a modern guitar to the world market. As an ambitious guitarist he realised his dreams and founded Ovation Guitars, a guitar company of a somewhat different kind. He was on the one hand inspired by traditional standards and on the other equipped with a strong openness to new technologies he owed to his roots as a developer and manufacturer of helicopters.
Charles dared to approach guitar making in a way that still polarises today. The special fibre-plastic composite material Lyrachord combined with a parabolic roundback body shape were the ingredients for a completely new sonic experience in an already well-populated acoustic guitar market.
The ultimate breakthrough was enabled by the electro-acoustic version of the Ovation guitar. Here too, Charles’s aerospace experience was pioneering for a development that culminated in the first piezo pickup. This made it possible for acoustic guitarists to remain present even within full band arrangements, or for soloists to perform at large open-air events without sonic compromises.
This unique sound, paired with the playing comfort of an electric guitar, still makes Ovation guitars a must-have for guitarists in clubs and stadiums alike.
