Founded in 1983 by Bernhard Kurzke, Nobels started together with technician Kai Tachibana as a small company with big ambitions: great sounds, clever ideas and fair prices. Since then Nobels has followed a clear motto: "No Fashion! Just straight, high standards with that little Extra for the Musician!"
The Natural Overdrive ODR‑1, first introduced in 1993, made Nobels particularly well known in studio circles. Its open, natural sound established itself as an alternative to the then widespread "nasally" overdrives. Musicians like Gary Moore, Bryan Adams and Mark Knopfler appreciated this character and integrated the pedal into their setups.

Fast jeder sollte bei diesem Pedal schnell einen wirklich guten Overdrive-Ton finden. Drive und Spectrum sind über einen großen Regelweg sinnvoll nutzbar. Auch mit einem anderen Overdrive in Serie geschaltet bleibt der transparente Charakter des ODR-1 erhalten (solange man es mit den Gain- bzw. Level-Einstellungen nicht übertreibt). Für typische moderne „Nashville-Sounds“ ist ein ODR-1 wohl Pflicht, aber auch für viele andere Stilrichtungen sind vor allem dessen low-gain-drive-Möglichkeiten interessant. Wer ausschließlich Gitarren mit Single-Coil-Pickups spielt, wird den zusätzlichen Regler dieses Jubiläums-Sondermodells eher nicht benötigen. Insgesamt aber ein empfehlenswertes Pedal …
