The Moeck company
For many decades, the name Moeck has been synonymous with outstanding recorders. From 1930 onwards, Hermann Moeck Sr. sold recorders by mail order, which were manufactured in home workshops in the Vogtland region of Saxony, but he did the voicing and tuning himself. He also sold viols, clavichords and spinets, some of which were made in his own workshop. In the course of the interest in historical and practical performance issues that developed in the 1960s and, associated with this, in historically "authentic" instruments, a special programme emerged in the Moeck workshops: the reconstruction of woodwind instruments from the Renaissance and Baroque periods. The programme was scientifically supported and further developed and includes crumhorns, cornamuses, cortholts, shawms and pomeranians, dulcians, rankettes, tines, Renaissance traverses and Baroque traverses, oboes, bassoons and early clarinets. From the very beginning, however, the focus of instrument production was on recorders.
Through continuous further development and constant adaptation of the products to the needs of musicians, this brand name has remained a guarantee of good quality to this day. Today, Moeck uses the latest computer-controlled machines in the manufacture of its instruments, but the proportion of manual labour is still very high. Over the years, Moeck has succeeded in combining the skill and intuition of the craftsman with the precision of the machine to produce a wide range of high-quality instruments with a reliable standard of quality.
