The original idea for the Sand Hats dates back to 2010, when the 14" version developed with Benny Greb was presented to the public for the first time. Due to many requests for large hihats, the constantly changing musical trends and the associated sound requirements, a 2-inch larger version of the Sand Hats was developed with him again. "I have been using the prototype of the 16" Sand Hats in the studio for some time now, when a warmer, wider hihat sound was required, but I didn't want to do without the sound character of my 14" version.
