The Tone X pedal is the latest addition to the IK Multimedia X-Gear pedals. Authentic simulations of overdrive stompboxes, amps and cabinets is what the Tone X pedal is all about. The tried-and-tested IK Multimedia software can be used to create countless live rigs consisting of pedal, amp and speaker simulations. amp and speaker simulations can be loaded and edited. It is also possible to load IRs from third-party providers. 300 user presets are available, which can be called up directly on the device or selected via MIDI. The ideal tool for recording and live use. The scope of delivery includes download codes for the IK Multimedia Tonex Max and AmpliTube 5 software, which offer an extensive library of amp and speaker simulations as well as editing and archiving tools.

Das Pedal klingt spitze, die Captures spielen sich wie Amps. Die Sounds sind detailliert und der Profiling, äh ..Captureprozess ist nicht schwer. Die Integration auf einem Pedalboard ist einfach, das Ding ist ja (fast zu) mini. Contras: Kein Trittschutz für die Drehregler. So kicke ich leider an den Potis rum, wenn ich einen Schalter benutze. Das Einstellen am Gerät ist leider so lala bis meh, aber wer früher midi konnte, kommt mit den paar Menüs auch klar. Die Integration von externen CAB-IR ist schlecht. Die IR muss man _einzeln_ in die Tonex Software laden. Das dauert ewig, und es passt nicht zum Konzept von IK, wenn ich für einen Workaround das "Ecosystem" verlassen muss. Die _Nutzungsbedingungen_, die IK Multimedia aufstellt, sollte man sich genau durchlesen im Hinblick auf einen eventuellen Weiterverkauf. Das ist nämlich nur eingeschränkt möglich mit den Softwareprodukten.
Das ToneX-Pedal bietet "Profiling"-Technologie zu einem Bruchteil des Preises des Kemper Profiler. Die Qualität der Profilierung der Verstärker hängt vom verwendeten "Profil" ab, wie bei allen "Profilern": die werkseitig eingestellten sind wie üblich schlecht, aber wenn man die findet, die gut klingen, ist die Qualität absolut hervorragend. Leider hat der ToneX einen Fehler mit der Erdung und bei manchen Systemen ist das Phasenbrummen wirklich stark (auch wenn man andere Benutzer hört); ich musste mir einen Joyo-Rauschunterdrücker für etwa 10€ besorgen und das Problem war gelöst. Insgesamt habe ich mit dem ToneX und den richtigen Profilen fantastische Töne und viel besser als mit dem Helix Floor.
