Who is Margo Price?
Margo Rae Price was born on 15 April 1983 and is an American country singer, songwriter, producer and author from Nashville. Margo grew up in the small town of Aledo, Illinois, where she played piano and sang in a church choir before studying dance and theatre at Northern Illinois University. In Nashville, Margo worked various jobs, including as a waitress and an assembler, and taught children dance. Margo and her husband, guitarist Jeremy Ivey, were part of Secret Handshake, a band that played exclusively political songs, before she and Jeremy founded Buffalo Clover and later formed Margo and the Pricetags. Her first solo album Midwest Farmer's Daughter was released on 25 March 2016 on Third Man Records. The album was recorded at Sun Studio in Memphis, Tennessee. In December 2018, Margo received a nomination for Best New Artist at the 61st Annual Grammy Awards.
Margo's first signature guitar
The music of the multi-award-winning artist Margo Price crosses the boundaries of traditional country, Americana and classic rock. Her Gibson J-45 acoustic guitar was always by her side during her rise to a top country artist. The Margo Price Signature J-45 from Gibson embodies the spirit, vision and talent that brought Margo to fame. It continues the tradition of the natural - the Med model of Gibson. The Gibson Margo Price J-45 was inspired by her mid-60s J-45, a guitar she herself calls “my most important baby; my guitar that I play constantly”.
The features of the Gibson Margo Price J-45
The Gibson Margo Price J-45 has a slightly slimmer mahogany body. The red spruce top comes with traditional hand-scalloped Advanced X-Bracing. The neck is made of mahogany and has a rounded profile. The fretboard is rosewood, the Grover tuners have white buttons. The nut and saddle are made of bone and the bridge pins are made of TUSQ. The Gibson Margo Price J-45 is equipped with an L.R. Baggs pickup, so it's studio- and stage-ready straight out of the included hardshell case. Margo was also inspired by red-tailed hawks, which appear on the distinctive double 1950s pickguards of her new signature guitar. The guitar is finished in a classic Heritage Cherry Sunburst.
“Red-tailed hawks have always had a symbolic meaning for me. I see them everywhere, and that has always been the case, because they're found all over the United States, but to me they feel like they're from another world, and they come to me when I need them, with messages of strength and perseverance. The colour red stands for love, passion and even anger, so for things we usually associate with the heart, but if you look closely the tips of the feathers are dipped in white, and the bird itself has something spiritual about it. When I'm on long car journeys, I look out the window and count them on the roadside. They fly over me and remind me to find strength in my vulnerability, to open up and connect with the people around me. I hope this guitar will also remind those who play it of these lessons.”

About Gibson
The American Gibson Guitar Corporation, founded in 1902 by Orville Gibson in Kalamazoo, Michigan, first became known for the production of mandolins and banjos. Today the company’s headquarters are in Nashville, Tennessee, and Gibson is one of the world’s most renowned and respected manufacturers of electric guitars.
The model Les Paul, named after its creator Lester William Polsfuss, is one of the most famous and best‑selling electric guitar shapes of all time and established the single‑cut guitar form, which has been copied, adopted and reinterpreted by numerous other manufacturers. The Les Paul is mainly prized for its sound, characterised as warm and full. The humbucker pickup largely responsible for that sound, in its now common design, was developed by Seth Lover at Gibson.
In the early 1960s the Gibson SG appeared as another solid‑body electric from Gibson. Originally intended as the successor to the Les Paul, it became — helped by Angus Young of AC/DC — another rock‑history icon and is the basis for the double‑cutaway guitar type.
With the Flying V and the Explorer Gibson is responsible for two body shapes that, although they were far ahead of their time when introduced in the late 1950s, have over the years also achieved legendary status. They still serve as the foundation for a host of heavy guitars today, for example from makers such as Jackson or ESP.
The Gibson Custom Shop produces custom orders, high‑quality one‑offs and precise replicas of famous models and legendary instrument years. These are often subjected to an artificial ageing process called relicing.
Almost as long as the company has existed, acoustic guitars have also been produced. The J‑45, the Hummingbird, the L‑00 and the SJ‑200 are among the world’s most beloved steel‑string acoustics and were the instruments of choice for Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley and John Lennon.
Besides the instruments already mentioned, you can of course also buy picks, bags and cases or merchandise from Gibson with us.
We are particularly proud to host a Gibson Flagship Store in our Frankfurt branch. There you’ll find not only a large selection and exclusive models to try out in person, but you’ll also benefit from the expertise of our Gibson‑trained and certified staff when choosing the perfect guitar.
