Introducing: Your dream instrument from Gibson
All the info to help you decide
The Gibson 1963 Country Western Murphy Lab Heavy Aged is based on a classic Gibson acoustic from the early 1960s that remains highly popular today. This guitar has been crafted to match the historical originals down to the smallest detail. Below we present the Gibson 1963 Country Western Murphy Lab Heavy Aged to you in detail.
The history of the Gibson Country Western
The Country Western was introduced in 1962 in a Square-Shoulder configuration and originated as a variant of Gibson’s popular Southern Jumbo model. With the square-shoulder body shape of a Hummingbird, but in a natural finish and with an unadorned tortoise-style pickguard, the Country Western offers wonderful tonal quality and a unique look that has appealed to musicians since its launch. Since the 1990s it has been one of the most requested Gibson acoustic models for reissues.
Construction and tonewoods
The Gibson 1963 Country Western is the result of decades of craftsmanship and meticulous attention to detail. With its all-solid construction and traditional hand-scalloped X-bracing top bracing for optimal vibration transfer, it delivers a full, resonant tone that convinces both in studio recordings and at home. The square-shoulder shape delivers powerful Gibson tone. This acoustic guitar is not just an instrument, but a tool that brings your musical ideas to life.
The Gibson 1963 Country Western Murphy Lab Heavy Aged features a high-gloss body finish that not only highlights the beauty of the wood but also ensures the instrument’s durability. The thermally aged spruce top perfectly emphasises the vintage look and gives the guitar a played-in tone. The mahogany neck and rosewood fretboard offer excellent playability, while the 16" (406.4 mm) fretboard radius provides a comfortable feel. Gotoh tuners with white buttons and a 1:14 gear ratio guarantee precise tuning so you can fully concentrate on your music.
Vintage highlights
Another highlight is the use of bone for the nut and the saddle, which contributes to a clear and well-defined tone. The bridge pins in white plastic and the Aged White binding give the guitar a nostalgic touch that perfectly suits the Heavy Aged finish. This guitar is not just an instrument, but an experience that takes you back to the golden era of music.
Murphy Lab Heavy Aging
The most extreme of Gibson’s Murphy Lab ageing levels, Heavy Aged, summons the spirit of the most battle-worn and well-loved Gibson instruments in history. If you want a guitar that looks like it hasn’t left your side since the early days of rock ’n’ roll, this is the finish for you.

About Gibson
The American Gibson Guitar Corporation, founded in 1902 by Orville Gibson in Kalamazoo, Michigan, first became known for the production of mandolins and banjos. Today the company’s headquarters are in Nashville, Tennessee, and Gibson is one of the world’s most renowned and respected manufacturers of electric guitars.
The model Les Paul, named after its creator Lester William Polsfuss, is one of the most famous and best‑selling electric guitar shapes of all time and established the single‑cut guitar form, which has been copied, adopted and reinterpreted by numerous other manufacturers. The Les Paul is mainly prized for its sound, characterised as warm and full. The humbucker pickup largely responsible for that sound, in its now common design, was developed by Seth Lover at Gibson.
In the early 1960s the Gibson SG appeared as another solid‑body electric from Gibson. Originally intended as the successor to the Les Paul, it became — helped by Angus Young of AC/DC — another rock‑history icon and is the basis for the double‑cutaway guitar type.
With the Flying V and the Explorer Gibson is responsible for two body shapes that, although they were far ahead of their time when introduced in the late 1950s, have over the years also achieved legendary status. They still serve as the foundation for a host of heavy guitars today, for example from makers such as Jackson or ESP.
The Gibson Custom Shop produces custom orders, high‑quality one‑offs and precise replicas of famous models and legendary instrument years. These are often subjected to an artificial ageing process called relicing.
Almost as long as the company has existed, acoustic guitars have also been produced. The J‑45, the Hummingbird, the L‑00 and the SJ‑200 are among the world’s most beloved steel‑string acoustics and were the instruments of choice for Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley and John Lennon.
Besides the instruments already mentioned, you can of course also buy picks, bags and cases or merchandise from Gibson with us.
We are particularly proud to host a Gibson Flagship Store in our Frankfurt branch. There you’ll find not only a large selection and exclusive models to try out in person, but you’ll also benefit from the expertise of our Gibson‑trained and certified staff when choosing the perfect guitar.
