Can a tried-and-tested perennial pedal be improved? It can!! Fulltone has focussed on the bypass. With the OCD Version 2 you can choose between True Bypass and Enhanced Bypass. True Bypass circuits have the advantage that the input signal is passed through the unit unaffected in bypass mode - the drawback is often a popping noise when switching. A buffered bypass remedies this, but poor buffer circuits often alter the sound. Fulltone developed the so-called Enhanced Bypass, a sonically neutral unity-gain buffer circuit that avoids problems with background noise - for purists the OCD V2 can still be switched to True Bypass. Also new is a discretely constructed JFET input stage - the changed input impedance allows a significantly extended dynamic range. In terms of sound nothing essential has changed: the OCD is the overdrive/distortion secret weapon - an open, powerful overdrive that responds very well to playing dynamics or the guitar's volume pot.
