As early as 1950 Fender began developing the new guitar that would later be called the Stratocaster. After consultation with several well-known guitarists, including Western-swing musician Bill Carson and entertainer Rex Galleon, for whom Leo Fender wanted to build the perfect guitar, the design for the Stratocaster took shape. It was to have three pickups, a more comfortable, ergonomically shaped body and also a completely new feature: the vibrato.
In 1954 the Fender Stratocaster finally came onto the market. The instrument looked like no guitar before it: the body appeared curvier and more flowing than that of the Telecaster to increase playing comfort, the new headstock somewhat resembled the old Bigsby headstocks, the jack socket was elegantly recessed into the body side instead of on the top, and the Strat was equipped with three single-coil pickups. The Fender Custom Shop has made it its mission to study the high-quality vintage Stratocasters of the past and reproduce them down to the smallest detail. The Fender Custom Shop Early 1955 Stratocaster TCP HT MN 2TSB is a classic ST-style electric guitar with a two-piece ash body. Ash was already used on the original Stratocaster guitars and provides the basis for the perfect vintage sound. The body wood was hand-selected to ensure particularly light weight and thus improve playing comfort. The maple neck with maple fretboard is shaped in a 1954 "U" profile and fitted with a compound fretboard radius of 7.25" - 9.5", offering the perfect compromise between vintage feel and modern comfort and making fretting easier for the left hand. The guitar is fitted with a classic S-S-S pickup configuration of three Fender 1954 Single-Coil Stratocaster pickups. Further equipment includes Fender vintage-style tuners, a Fender vintage-style Strat hardtail bridge and a single-ply white pickguard.
This model is finished in a classic 2-Color Sunburst. The thin Fender Flash Coat lacquer finish allows the wood to resonate particularly well and helps the finish age more attractively. The instrument is built to vintage specifications but has no wear, faded finish, dinged hardware or other ageing effects. This type of finish is perfect for you if you want everything that characterised Fender guitars of the era, but prefer that any scratches and dents come from your own experiences and hands.
