Product information "Fender Custom Shop 1959 Stratocaster RW Roasted Heavy Relic Aged Sherwood Green Metallic #CZ566566"
In 1954 the Fender Stratocaster finally hit the market after a long development period. The instrument looked like no guitar before it: the body appeared curvier and more flowing than that of the Telecaster to increase playing comfort, the new headstock was somewhat reminiscent of the old Bigsby headstocks, the jack socket was elegantly recessed into the body side instead of on the top, and the Strat came equipped with three single‑coil pickups. Initially the guitar featured an ash body and a bolt‑on maple neck and was only available in 2‑Colour Sunburst or White Blonde finishes. It wasn’t an instant bestseller, but gradually the Strat became ever more popular and a fixed part of music history.
At first the Stratocaster was only available in the two colours mentioned above; from 1957 the first Custom colours were introduced, allowing customers to order a more colourful guitar for an extra charge. In 1959 the Strat received a facelift together with the Telecaster: bodies were now made from alder and the maple necks were fitted with rosewood fretboards, which produced a warmer overall tone. New colours were also added to the existing Custom colours.
The Fender Custom Shop sets out to study the high‑quality vintage Stratocasters of the past and reproduce them down to the smallest detail. Here we have for you a very special Custom Shop one‑off that is modelled on a Stratocaster from Fender’s golden era:
The Fender Custom Shop 1959 Stratocaster RW Roasted Heavy Relic Aged Sherwood Green Metallic is a classic ST‑style electric guitar with a two‑piece alder body. Alder has been used on original Stratocasters since the late 1950s and provides the foundation for the perfect vintage tone. The body wood was hand‑selected to ensure an especially light weight and thereby improve playing comfort. The aged roasted quartersawn maple neck with rosewood fretboard has a 1959 "C" profile in the 1960s style and a 9.5" fretboard radius, offering the ideal compromise between vintage feel and modern playability. The guitar is fitted with a classic S‑S‑S pickup configuration of three Fender Custom Shop handwound Texas Special™ single‑coils. Other features include Fender vintage‑style tuners, Aged White soft‑touch knobs, a Fender 6‑saddle American Vintage Synchronized Tremolo bridge and a gold anodised aluminium pickguard.
This model is finished in a classic Aged Sherwood Green Metallic. The thin nitrocellulose lacquer finish allows the wood to resonate particularly well and ensures the finish ages beautifully. The most extreme of all Fender relic levels, Heavy Relic, summons the spirit of the most well‑worn and battle‑scarred Fender instruments in history. If you want a guitar that looks like it’s been at your side since the beginnings of rock ’n’ roll, this is the finish for you.
The Fender Custom Shop 1959 Stratocaster RW Roasted Heavy Relic Aged Sherwood Green Metallic is delivered with a certificate of authenticity in a luxurious original Fender Custom Shop case with brown Tolex and orange plush interior, so you can safely transport your new dream guitar and protect it from the elements.
