In the late 1950s and early 1960s Fender instruments enjoyed steadily growing popularity. Although there were already several models in the Fender lineup at that time, the Stratocaster was by far the most popular. Up to 1961 its design was continually refined. It was fitted with a 7.25" rosewood fretboard and a three-ply pickguard to emphasise the famous Strat curves. The colour palette was also expanded in the early '60s, with finishes like Fiesta Red and 3-Color Sunburst joining the Fender lineup.
The American Vintage II 1961 Stratocaster delivers the tone and playing feel of the original with its premium alder body, three Pure Vintage 1961 Stratocaster pickups and maple neck in a "Medium C" profile with a slab rosewood fretboard and 7.25" radius. Other details include a historically correct synchronized tremolo with cold-rolled steel block and curved steel saddles, "Fender Deluxe" single-line tuners, and a three-ply pickguard.
