Here Evans presents the Calftone bass drum head, a synthetic alternative to the traditional bass drum heads that were formerly made from calfskin. These heads embody the calfskin look and sound of the 1950s, yet with the durability, perfect bearing-edge contact and the tuning range of the Level 360 technology standard.

The Calftone bass drum heads from Evans are made from a 12-mil Mylar film to produce warm, full and natural tones. These heads deliver the best of the vintage kit — a combination of nostalgia for the classic style and the sound of modern shells. To enhance this feeling, Evans '56 are supplied in vintage-style packaging. The bass drum heads are available in sizes from 16" to 26" and here as the EQ4 version (single-ply, with an internal damping ring). The Evans-developed "Externally Mounted Adjustable Damping (EMAD)" system damps with an externally mounted ring and makes further muffling of the bass drum unnecessary. With its help, the sound can be altered with just a few simple adjustments.
