In the early 90s, Mike Matthews, mastermind of Electro Harmonix, entered the tube business after the fall of the Iron Curtain and took over the production facilities of Sovtek, one of the largest tube manufacturers in the world. The tubes were logically followed by tube amps - the MIG series, named after the Russian fighter jet of the same name. The reasonably priced tube amps with the iconic Russian trash outfit hit like a bomb, but were discontinued after a short time due to internal problems. The small MIG 50, one of the top sellers of the 90s, has now been resurrected under the Electro Harmonix label. The classic circuit concept is still used, but with numerous improvements that make the amp more reliable and stable. In principle, the MIG-50 is modelled on the good old Bassman, which was successfully tried out by a British amp company at the beginning of the 1960s. There are 2 channels available - Normal and Bright/High Gain, which share a common 4-band tone control. BIAS measuring points have been added, which are accessible from the outside. The sound palette ranges from classic clean sound to medium crunch. The MIG-50 also cuts a fine figure as a pedalboard amp.

Es handelt sich hier um ein toll verarbeitete Wiederauflage des Mig-50 von Sovtek, dem kultigen Amp der Anfan der 90er Jahre aus Russland zu uns rübergeschwappt ist. Er besticht durch ein schlichtes Design mit nur 6 Reglern (Bass, Middle, Treble, Presence) und zwei Volumenreglern. Ein Mastervolume hat der Regler nicht. Im „Bright“-Kanal fängt der Amp bei Volume auf 3 langsam an zu zerren. Bei insgesamt 50 Watt verlässt man da aber langsam den Zimmerlautstärkebereich. Der Amp gibt auch feinste Nuancen des Spielens wieder. Insgesamt finde ich den Regelbereich der Klangsteller recht klein, dennoch klingt der Amp toll. Er eignet sich hervorragend für das Vorschalten von Effektgeräten. Einen Einschleifweg besitzt der Amp nicht. Wer einen guten und günstigen Amp für Sein Pedalboard sucht, wird hier fündig!
