The 4055 was developed to take the kick bass to the next level. It turns the traditional concept of a kick drum microphone on its head. You no longer get a prefabricated sound - you can take the design completely into your own hands.
The 4055 stands out from the competition because it delivers the familiar DPA sound, clarity and linear frequency response both on and off axis. The low-frequency response, dynamics and sound pressure resistance of this microphone are excellent and result in a very tight, natural and well-defined sound. Treble, bass and mids - it's all there.
The 4055 is one of the few kick drum microphones that is not tailored to a traditional sound in a specific genre. Its performance allows a professional sound designer to create exactly the sound he wants to hear - regardless of the music genre. Want more attack? Slide the 4055 into the bass drum and point it directly at the beater. For a super low-end sound, place the 4055 at the hole, directly on the outside of the front head. This is where the sub and low end have the most impact.
Not only does the position inside and outside the kick drum provide different sounds, but working with angles of the microphone just outside the resonance hole provides numerous nuances of the drum sound. No matter what your sound preference, the 4055 captures the true sound of a kick drum - whether it's classical, jazz, rock or any other genre.
The 4055 is housed in a large, sturdy enclosure with a wind-absorbing foam directly in front of the capsule, behind the basket. A specially designed shockmount protects the capsule in the housing from vibrations from the stage. The shockmount and the additional wind attenuation ensure that the 4055 only captures the sound source.
The 4055 is easy to position both inside and outside the drum. Its unique asymmetrical design makes it easy to guide the microphone through the resonance hole without damaging the drumhead.
