The 22 medium‑easy to medium‑difficult piano pieces contained in “Traumhafte Klaviermusik” tell short stories from life, convey moods from cheerful to overcast and weave familiar and new sound associations with exciting harmonies, rhythms and motifs. They are very well suited to developing expressive playing. The aim is to convey the mood of the piece sensitively and expressively through slight changes in touch, dynamics and tempo.
The balance between catchiness and surprising melodic and harmonic turns is well judged and makes this collection of pieces worth hearing and playing at any age. Even when practising slowly, the compositions should bring joy and sound interesting, so that the motivation to be able to play them fluently is generated almost by itself. Recurring or slightly varied motifs make it easy for the player and listener to follow and learn.
To the melodies of the right hand the left hand plays recurring accompaniment patterns, which are often found in traditional and modern piano literature and thus provide the learner with a good technical foundation. The right hand is more prominent and active and takes on the role of the narrator. Stylistic elements from classical and modern music, film music and romantic pop ballads are artfully interwoven to create new sonic experiences. Keys and time signatures are chosen so that the pieces are easy to learn and the player can concentrate on the interpretation of the music as well as on a fluent and independent playing of both hands. The playful learning of fast runs, syncopations and leaps is also promoted in a moderate way. The fingerings are carefully placed to enable a fluent and effortless legato playing. The use of the sustain pedal is recommended for all pieces, however the compositions also sound complete without it thanks to the legato.
