Dave Friedman has already proven with the BE OD and the Dirty Shirley pedal that he can transplant the legendary sound of his high-end amps into an amp in a box pedal - the current Smallbox Overdrive pedal is the logical consequence. The pedal has an effective 3-band EQ with additional Presence Poti. On board is the Friedman typical Gain Structure switch, with which you can choose between classic crunch or high gain board. Die Verarbeitung ist sehr gut und das Pedal macht einen absolut wertigen Eindruck. Leider empfinde ich den Sound solide, es klingt schon nach Marshall Plexi, allerdings hat es ein gewissen "fizzeln" was mir absolut nicht gefällt. Auch die Dynamik ist im Gegensatz zu meinen Carl Martin PlexiTone (das große und der ZVEX Box of Rock nicht so gut und das Pedal reagiert eher abgestuft auf den Anschlag. Das Pedal soll einem Plexi nachenpfunden sein, teilweise kann ich den Sound nachvollziehen, aber irgendwie klingt es mir dafür doch einen hauch zu modern. Ich habe einige Plexis zu Hause sowie einen Fender Bassman, und der Sound geht in die gleiche Richtung, schlägt jedoch irgendwann eine andere Biegung Richtung modern ein. Mich hat das Pedal für den Preis nicht vom Hocker gehauen. PS.: Getestet wurde an einem JTM45, EHX Mig 50, und einem Bassman.
