The Company
We are in 1973, when guitarist Günter Zierenberg has had enough of paying outrageously high prices for instruments and amplifiers. He comes up with a basically simple, yet brilliant idea. He promptly applies for a trade licence and, for the first time, drives to Great Britain in a van to stock up on goods there. Amplifiers, for example, that dealers in Germany have to buy for 1,000 DM, the travelling salesman Z. can get on the island for the equivalent of 600 DM – not to mention the far better selection there. In 1974 he then opens his first own music shop in an old milk shop in Ibbenbüren. Here he sells those amplifiers for 900 DM. The established trade fumes, the musicians are delighted. The milk shop becomes too small.

Over the following four decades, Musik Produktiv experienced three relocations and countless extension and conversion measures. It has long been one of the largest music retailers in Europe. However, Günter Zierenberg's original idea remains the driving force of the company: offering musicians their dream equipment at the lowest possible prices – without compromise on service and with personalised advice. That's why, in recent years, not only has the shipping department been continuously expanded, but in our flagship store in Laggenbeck we also do everything to keep the legendary Musik-Produktiv feeling alive. Examples include our climate-controlled showrooms for high-end guitars and the unique demo rooms for amps and E-Drums.
These days musicians from all over Europe find their way to Musik Produktiv. The selection of instruments is unrivalled. In what other music store can you try ten different Gibson ES335s in Tobacco Burst and then, in peace, enjoy a coffee afterwards? A wellness holiday for musicians, so to speak.
