Single Coils

The first guitars with magnetic pickups came to the market in the 1930s - the birth of the classic single coil pickup. This pickup consists, as the name suggests, of a single coil containing 6 magnets (Strat and Tele pickups) or iron cores in the coil with a bar magnet under the coil (as in the legendary P-90). Single Coil Pickups are known for their crisp, brilliant sound, but also for their susceptibility to hum. Single Coils are available in countless versions - from classic vintage type, to high output overwound, to active types.
