Mesa Boogie Subway D-800 · Bass Amp Head

The Mesa Boogie Subway D-800 is MESA's first ultra lightweight, professional Class D bass amp head. This amplifier provides an easy to use, very extensive preamp with comprehensive sound control, combined with an 800 W amplifier.

The tone control of the Mesa Boogie Subway D-800 is as follows:

Bass Control: + - 12 dB at 80 Hz
Low Mid Control: + - 12 dB at 200 Hz
Hi Mid Control: + - 12 dB at 480 Hz
Treble Control: + - 12 dB at 2.5 kHz

The 'Voicing Control' is a kind of continuous voicing knob, so the sound can be continuously cross faded from vintage oriented towards modern to mid-heavy sound, scooped sound.

A light heavyweight!

The D-800 is an amazing little amp, light weight but very solidly built, however it's the sound it produces that in my opinion sets it apart. My rig is fronted by a 5 string P bass with a pair of high quality 2x10's (depending on the size of venue one or both 2x10's). Starting at the front, the gain can be set from a totally clean and pristine sound to a subtle throaty overdriven edge to every note. The EQ section and the deep switch does exactly what you expect it to do so I won't dwell on that, the special function for me is the "voicing" control which gives you a sweep from a totally flat response to a proper vintage sound that manages not to loose a natural feel and doesn't sound processed as some pedals or amps can do. When used in conjunction with the other EQ controls it can go from subtle to mind blowing. I've checked the output and load (on the bench as well as dynamically) and it happily managed a load of 2.2 ohms without missing a beat and seriously loud ! In Summary, powerful, well made, fabulous sound and both compact and light. My only gripe, the fan stays on permanently is that really necessary?
