Subharmonicon is a semi-modular, polyrhythmic analog synthesizer that uses a 6-tone sound engine and a multi-layered clock generator to explore the world of subharmonics, polyrhythms and their unique relationships.
It all starts with two analog VCOs and four subharmonic oscillators for a total of six powerful sound sources. Each subharmonic tone is derived from one of the two main VCOs, giving the resulting chord shapes a beautifully coherent quality.
Animating the characteristic chord shapes of Subharmonicon is done via a polyrhythmic pair of 4-stage sequencers. Each sequencer is clocked by one or all four rhythm generators, which generate mathematical subdivisions of the master tempo.
The layering of multiple rhythm generators creates complex polyrhythms, inspiring new patterns and styles. Dynamic articulations ranging from lush pads and fuzzy edges to percussive plosives and ritualistic rhythms are created by Subharmonicon's dual envelope generators, Moog Ladder Filter and analog VCA.

Ich hatte das Subharmonicon eigentlich schon von meiner Liste gestrichen. Dann stiegen die Moog Preise, Musik-Produktiv hatte es aber noch sehr günstig im Angebot und schon waren alle guten Vorsätze verflogen. Zum Glück – jetzt ist es fester Bestandteil meines Sounddesign Studios und auch in mein Live-setup (Free Improv / Jazz) fest integriert. Es harmoniert wunderbar mit Effektpedalen und wenn man sich in die Übergänge zwischen verschiedenen Stücken einübt (Stimmen reduzieren, Rhythmen vereinfachen, neuen Part langsam aufbauen) ist es auch ein sehr vorhersehbares Instrument – wenn man möchte, denn Chaos und Noise sind natürlich auch möglich. Insgesamt ist das Subharmonicon ein phantastisch klingender und belohnender Synthesizer.
