Although Ibanez initially made a name for itself with idiosyncratic copies of traditional models from makers like Gibson and Fender, its own series gradually emerged, such as the Iceman, JEM, Artcore and RG. In the 1980s the company became particularly well known in the heavy sector with instruments that stood out for their modern features, distinctive design and excellent playability. Die Fertigungsqualität ist auf hohem Niveau. Aber: 1) Die Sattelkerben könnten noch einen Tick tiefer sein, ist aber nicht machbar bei einem Lockingsattel. 2) Eine der beiden Schrauben, die den Sattel am Hals arretieren, ist ab Werk schon am Kopf vermurkst. Das muß nicht sein, schon gar nicht bei dem Preis! 3) Ich konnte die Saitenlage durch behutsame Bundbearbeitung noch ein wenig verbessern. Das Finish sieht optisch sehr gut aus, ich weiß aber wirklich nicht, ob das seidenmatt lackiert oder nur geölt bzw. gewachst ist. Streicht man mit dem Finger über Korpus und Hals, fühlt es sich irgendwie roh an... Das stört beim Spielen jedoch nicht. So, nun das größte Problem: Ich hatte mir diese Gitarre u.a. gekauft, um auf der Bühne zwischen Humbucker- und Stratsound wechseln zu können, ohne mit zwei Instrumenten hantieren zu müssen, musste aber feststellen, daß mir die Verschaltung der Humbucker da einen Strich durch die Rechnung macht: In den Zwischenpositionen des PU-Schalters wird bei den Humbuckern jeweils die innere Spule aktiviert. Warum Ibanez dieses Schema gewählt hat, ist mir schleierhaft! Damit kann jedenfalls KEIN Strat-Feeling aufkommen. Wer das haben will, muß also zum Lötkolben greifen und die Schaltung umbauen... Nachdem das erledigt ist, klingt sie nun wie gewünscht! Sie hat endloses Sustain, die Schwingfreudigkeit ist bemerkenswert. Die Humbucker haben mächtig Dampf, die Singlecoil-Sounds sind kaum leiser. Insgesamt recht höhenbetont, hätte ich so nicht gedacht, kann auch an den Edelstahlbünden liegen. Fazit: Wenn man die genannte Einschränkung bzgl. der Verschaltung der Humbucker beachtet und sich zutraut, dies bei Bedarf umzubauen, ist diese Gitarre absolut empfehlenswert.
