Product information "ADAM Audio D3V white"
The D3V is a fully active desktop monitor system designed for composers, producers and music lovers who want to enjoy ADAM Audio's sound quality as conveniently as possible. Available in white or black, these active monitors feature the legendary gold-coloured ribbon tweeter and stay true to ADAM Audio's established German industrial design.
Each active speaker features 3.5-inch aluminium low-mid drivers with a ferrite magnet system, driven by 80-watt amplifiers. The low-mid drivers are complemented by double-sided 3.5-inch passive radiators that extend the D3V's frequency response down to around 45 Hz.
With 25 years of experience in designing and manufacturing ribbon tweeters, ADAM Audio created the compact 1.5-inch D-ART (Desktop Accelerated Ribbon Tweeter). It delivers the precise, uncoloured high-frequency reproduction that the manufacturer's established monitors are known for.
The D3V features a USB-C input. When connected to a computer the monitor system behaves as a digital output device and does not require an additional audio interface for playback. This plug-and-play functionality also extends to mobile devices, allowing high-quality sound reproduction without the data compression or conversion typically associated with such connections. The D3V also offers balanced 6.35 mm TRS inputs for conventional analogue audio applications.
The rear of the left speaker houses a set of user-friendly switches to address common acoustic issues arising from speaker placement. On the front you'll find a headphone jack and a volume control that also selects the audio input, mutes the output and controls additional functions.
The D3V is supplied complete with removable monitor stands angled 15° toward the listener. In addition, both monitors have a standard 3/8-inch thread on the underside for mounting on microphone stands.
Fully active 3.5-inch aluminium low-mid drivers with ferrite magnet system
Optimised using ADAM Audio's state-of-the-art Klippel measurement system, the extremely symmetrical voice coils and ferrite magnets help minimise unwanted distortion and provide the low-mid drivers with a linear drive. Each one-piece concave cone is made from ribbed, thick aluminium with long linear excursion, delivering uncoloured sound even at surprisingly high output levels.
The D3V is a fully active design with four amplifier channels and a DSP-controlled crossover. The low-mid drivers are powered by 80-watt amplifiers, with the link cable transmitting an amplified signal to the right speaker.
D-ART tweeter
A quarter century of ribbon tweeter research and development has led to ADAM Audio's powerful 1.5-inch Desktop Accelerated Ribbon Tweeter. Each diaphragm is hand-folded and each unit is driven by 40-watt amplifiers. As with all ADAM Audio tweeters, the D-ART benefits from fine-tuning of the crossover managed by a high-precision signal processor.
Passive radiators
The D3V uses double-sided passive radiators in each speaker, four in total per system. Each passive radiator consists of a stainless steel plate as the moving mass and a specially stabilised long-excursion rubber surround as the suspension. Together they reinforce the lowest frequencies of the speaker via their interaction with the main low-mid drivers, contributing to an increased overall sound pressure level.
USB-C direct input
The D3V is ADAM Audio's most convenient monitor system to date thanks to its plug-and-play USB-C input. When connected to a computer, smartphone or tablet the speakers behave like a digital output device, removing the need for an additional audio interface. This direct digital connection enables high-quality audio playback without the data compression or extra conversion usually associated with desktop monitors.
DSP room acoustics
The rear panel of the left speaker features three switches to counteract common acoustic problems caused by speaker placement. "POSITION" relates to the fixed position of the speaker in the room. "DESK" refers to the size of the desk in front of the speaker, while "ROOM" relates to the degree of acoustic treatment in the room where the system is used.
Balanced analogue inputs
In addition to the USB-C input, the D3V offers analogue inputs for conventional audio applications. It supports balanced connections to audio interfaces as well as direct connections to a variety of hardware, including synthesizers, drum machines, samplers and DJ mixers. The USB-C port or the balanced analogue inputs can be selected by pressing the volume control on the left speaker.
Headphone output, monitor stands and mounting options
Functionality and comfort were key considerations in the D3V's design. The front headphone output automatically takes over audio playback when connected. Also included are monitor stands angled at 15°. In addition, both monitors have a standard 3/8-inch thread on the underside for mounting on microphone stands.
Injection-moulded enclosure
The D3V's enclosure is made from high-quality ABS injection-moulded polycarbonate with thick walls and generous bracing to prevent vibration and unwanted resonances. The rounded shape reduces undesirable diffraction at high frequencies while honouring ADAM Audio's long-established industrial design.

The German company ADAM Audio develops, manufactures and distributes high-end loudspeakers for professional use. Founded in Berlin in 1999 and still based there today, ADAM Audio has grown from a hidden gem into a true pioneer and global player in loudspeaker development. The name ADAM Audio comes from the specially developed Advanced Dynamic Audio Monitor.
The foundation for its success was laid by the newly developed X-ART tweeter, which is based on Oskar Heil's Air Motion Transformer from the 1960s. Sound in the X-ART tweeter is not produced by a piston-like moving diaphragm, as was customary until then, but by a pleated film used in the tweeter. This drives the air four times faster than it would move on its own. In fact, the Advanced Dynamic Audio Monitors quickly became the new benchmark in professional monitoring.
The newly developed tweeter immediately became synonymous with a crystal-clear, highly resolved sound and is ADAM Audio's most famous development. Further progress was also made through the use of modern materials such as rare-earth magnets and high-strength diaphragm films, which enabled new designs.
As part of continuous development, a successor to the renowned X-ART tweeter was already designed: the S-ART tweeter. New, solid-aluminium machined HPS and MPS waveguides were also developed to improve dispersion, projection and imaging of the sound and to enlarge the speakers' sweet spot.
Even in times of automated mass production, all ADAM Audio products are meticulously handmade and tested at the Berlin facility. ADAM Audio employs over 60 people worldwide and is represented in more than 75 countries. The fan base, made up of renowned recording studios as well as thoroughly satisfied hi‑fi listeners using ADAM Audio products, is large and continues to grow.
