Ibanez JEMJR-BK Steve Vai
The Ibanez JEM in detail
About Steve Vai
Steve Vai needs no introduction any more; he should be known to any ambitious electric guitarist. Whether in his legendary stints as Frank Zappa's guitarist providing distinctive sounds and solos, his time alongside Whitesnake and David Lee Roth, contributions to various soundtracks, or an extremely successful solo career—born in New York in 1960, Steve Vai has redefined the boundaries of the electric guitar, if there are any for him at all. Even today Steve is fully active and shuns no musical challenge. His collaboration with Ibanez has also produced some of the most successful signature guitars of all time.
Steve Vai's oldest signature model
The Ibanez JEM is the oldest of Steve Vai's signature Ibanez guitars and has been in production for over 35 years. A successor model, the PIA, is already on the market and enjoys great popularity. The JEM is typically Steve Vai: a modern ST-style guitar with a Meranti body, noted for its light weight and ergonomic shape. The slim neck with a Wizard III profile allows fast, fatigue-free playing over long periods. The Jatoba fretboard is adorned with the classic Tree of Life inlay, designed by Steve himself. The pickups on all JEMs are Ibanez's own pickups in an HSH configuration, which Steve prefers to play. You'll discover all the other features in the video on the right, in which Steve presents his JEM to you.

The JEM, Steve Vai's signature model, has been an integral part of the Ibanez range in various versions since 1987. The Japanese instrument maker Ibanez can look back on a long tradition in guitar and bass construction. Although Ibanez initially made a name for itself with idiosyncratic copies of traditional models from makers like Gibson and Fender, its own series gradually emerged, such as the Iceman, JEM, Artcore and RG. In the 1980s the company became particularly well known in the heavy sector with instruments that stood out for their modern features, distinctive design and excellent playability. Innovations such as 7- and 8-string guitars, born from fruitful collaborations with artists like Joe Satriani, Steve Vai and Meshuggah, further helped to establish Ibanez's strong reputation. Today the manufacturer offers an extensive range, from entry-level guitars and basses to exotic Custom Shop models. In addition, Ibanez also impresses in the field of effects and amplifiers, as the classic TS9 Tubescreamer proves. Here you'll find a comprehensive selection of guitars, basses, amplifiers, effects and accessories from Ibanez.
