Fender American Acoustasonic Telecaster EB NAT

Discover the American Acoustasonic Telecaster in detail

The Telecaster is the electric guitar where it all began. By redefining everything an acoustic guitar can be, the American Acoustasonic Telecaster embodies the spirit of innovation Fender was built on. From Acoustic Shape Shifting to electric rhythm sounds, this powerful guitar delivers new tonal possibilities for both studio and stage. The Acoustasonic Telecaster was designed to inspire — a blend of cutting‑edge technology and organic playability, the Telecaster was the first guitar in the series and lays the foundation for the success of the Acoustasonic instruments. Every aspect of the construction supports that feel. The slim, comfortable Acoustasonic Telecaster with its open‑pore satin finish avoids everything that can make acoustic guitars feel cumbersome. The shallow, hollow body won’t strain your shoulder and the smooth mahogany neck sits comfortably in your hand. An integrated real‑wood armrest makes playing easier, while the optimised soundport produces natural fullness and lively overtones.

Construction

The hollow mahogany body is lightweight and ergonomically shaped, and features a forearm contour. The spruce top is set into the body and is elegantly framed by a thin 3‑ply black/white/black binding. Additional comfort is found in the upper registers of the fretboard: a contoured neck heel and a neck plate integrated into the body make playing high up the neck a pleasure. The fretboard, controls and bridge of the Acoustasonic Telecaster are made from ebony. Even harder and denser than rosewood, ebony is sometimes so dark that the grain is almost invisible — it can also be highly figured with streaks ranging from golden to light brown.

The Acoustasonic body features a recessed top with an integrated armrest and Fender's patent‑pending Stringed Instrument Resonance System (SIRS) with the Tuned Soundhole, which uses a "Waterfall" design to better control airflow into the body. This innovation creates a natural tonal character when the guitar is unplugged and forms the foundation for the Acoustic Engine. With the Tuned Soundhole as part of the tonal basis you can create an almost unlimited tonal spectrum with just two controls.

The mahogany neck and headstock of the Acoustasonic Telecaster bear a laser‑engraved logo — an elegant high‑tech detail that adds to the instrument’s beauty. Chrome tuners and a "Wing" string anchor increase the break angle at the nut and ensure balanced string tension.

Acoustic Engine

For the design of the pickup system Fender brought Larry Fishman and his team on board — they proved to be the perfect partners. In developing the Acoustasonic Telecaster’s electronics something entirely new was created: the Acoustic Engine. A groundbreaking technology that provides a curated collection of acoustic and electric sounds not previously heard in a single instrument.
Three pickup systems work together to create the Acoustic Engine developed by Fender and Fishman — a blend of classic analogue and modern technologies that optimise the guitar’s natural tone and then modify the vibration to deliver an unparalleled collection of electric and acoustic voicings that can be blended and combined seamlessly with the blend control.

These three pickups are responsible for the sound of the American Acoustasonic Telecaster:

  • Fishman Matrix™ Narrow Pickup: The acoustic sound starts with Fishman’s renowned Matrix Narrow undersaddle transducer, installed directly under the saddle
  • Fishman Acoustasonic Enhancer: The Acoustasonic Enhancer is installed beneath the top and focuses solely on its sound. It works particularly well for percussive playing with lots of attack.
  • Fender Acoustasonic Noiseless™: The Acoustasonic Noiseless pickup was developed for an authentic, hum‑free Fender electric tone and can be used solo or together with the acoustic voices. It is mounted directly on the top.

The American Acoustasonic Telecaster offers five voice pairs accessible via the 5‑way Voice Selector switch. Position 1 sits at the bridge as on an electric guitar, position 5 at the neck. This collection of acoustic and electric voices can be played solo or mixed with the blend control to create endless combinations. With the "A" voice the blend control is turned fully counter‑clockwise, with the "B" voice it is turned fully clockwise.

  • Position 1: Fender electric clean sound (A) up to slightly overdriven electric guitar sound (B)
  • Position 2: The tone of a mahogany dreadnought (A), moving toward B adds a slightly driven electric guitar tone
  • Position 3: The tone of a Brazilian rosewood dreadnought (A), moving toward B blends in the Acoustic Enhancer for a percussive effect
  • Position 4: A parlour guitar with spruce/maple body (A) and a mahogany dreadnought (B)
  • Position 5: Rosewood dreadnought (A) and a rosewood grand auditorium (B)

Tip: We recommend you play Fender Acoustasonic guitars through an acoustic amplifier, as this makes better use of their tonal possibilities than a guitar amp. Alternatively, you can also plug the Acoustasonic directly into an interface.

Power supply

The American Acoustasonic Telecaster is powered by an internal lithium‑ion battery. It’s recommended that you fully charge the battery before you play the instrument for the first time. Connect the USB charging cable to a 5‑volt USB‑compatible charger and plug the charger into a mains socket. The LED at the output jack lights solid red while charging and switches to solid green when charging is complete. It takes about four to five hours to fully charge the battery. A fully charged battery will power the system for approximately 20 hours. The battery will not be overcharged — a built‑in regulator prevents it from being overcharged and potentially damaging the system.

Tradition and modernity

The American Acoustasonic Telecaster features an open‑pore finish. That means the finish is light and thin and the pores of the wood remain visible. This type of finish allows maximum resonance of the body and top. Both traditional and adventurous, the American Acoustasonic Telecaster is available in five spectacular colours: Natural, Black, Sunburst, Steel Blue and Crimson Red. A deluxe gig bag is included. The "American" designation says it already: the American Acoustasonic is, of course, made in the USA.

With the exception of a few exotic wood tops produced in limited runs, all American Acoustasonic guitars have been delivered with a solid spruce top (soundboard) until now. For players seeking a warmer, mellower tone, the Acoustasonic Telecaster guitars are now available with a mahogany top (soundboard). This new version is crafted from a rich, caramel-coloured solid mahogany and offers the player a new Acoustasonic tonal palette to discover. The mahogany top is finished with dark tortoiseshell binding, as is the soundhole rosette, which wonderfully complements the new wood choice.
