Great amplifier

This is an amazing guitar amp. I use it as a pedal platform and it is impressive. One of my best purchase ever!

I found my amp !

This amp looks super simple, and that's just what I wanted. My experience is; the more functions you have on an amplifier - the more potential problems. I wanted an amp that sounded good no matter if I had the gain on 1 or 10 - and I have found it !! It is simple but a lot of experimenting and discovering still remains for me. A more in depth review about the amps weaknesses (if there is any) has to wait for now. This is what I currently know: First impression is that is very bassy. I have the "bass cut" switch activated all the time and I still need to turn down the bass to about 3. You can therefore choose a 2x10 cabinet without lacking bass or play in bigger rooms, but beware so you don't compete with the bass player to much... Second impression is that the FX loop adds gain for some reason. Quite a bit actually. I talked to tech support at Victory about it, but the "phenomenon" has something to do to do with my brand new power supply apparently (weird). The thing is, I love it !! It gives a boost and I can adjust the level on my guitar. But something to beware of. Thirdly and the most important thing for anyone who wants to buy this amplifier: It needs to be pushed hard, very hard !! You can get beautiful tones with a clean setting (1 or 2 gain) no matter the volume knob. It will sound fantastic no matter what. The moment you increase the gain, EL84s makes sure it breaks up quite soon, you will need to turn the volume knob up to at least 5, possibly even more in order to get that sweet spot. You can skip this if you love VOX sizzling (I don't). But If you want that sweet spot - you have to allow this amplifier to be loud. When you do this, the amplifier goes from a timid lunchbox to a tone monster.... I can play clean by turning down the volume knob and I have chime all over my body. I can play dirty Fender-like blues or I can get proper Marshall tones out of it. It also handles pedals well. I have a Rockaway Archer just to boost the signal and I can do super define leads (up to my playing ability :-) ). I can turn up the gain on the Archer or the amp itself and play metal with it. It is super versatile and can control most of it from my guitar. With the FX loop giving the amp a little extra juice, I can do pretty much anything. The only knob I'm currently adjusting is the "tone" knob. When I swithc to my Tele (which I bright as hell) I adjust the tone. With a bit of crunch I'm in blues land. Switching to my Les Paul I adjust the tone up a bit, and It sounds like Slash (except the playing). But remember, you need to push it. Right now my ears are soaring and I'm buying myself a CaptorX just to save my ears. For me who almost entirely been playing EL34-driven amps, this is a new experience. It breaks up sooner, but is defined. Especially when you play arpeggios where less fortunate amps can get messy - this is super clear. The only negative at the moment is the price. I don't know if it is expensive or not. Depends what you compare it with. I recently heard a new Laney amp that sounds killer for the third of the price. But it is the same price as my Marshall and this amp is waaay better in building and sounding quality. It all the depends I suppose. Still, it's not boutique-money and I think this amp will last a very long time. Buy this !
