The Strymon Fairfax is no ordinary overdrive pedal but a fully analogue mini amplifier in pedal format. The circuit is based on a rare tube preamp from the 1960s that can be heard on countless rock classics. The Fairfax reproduces its harmonic structure, saturation and playing feel, delivering an organic, lively sound that behaves like a real tube amp.
Thanks to the internally galvanically isolated voltage boost to 40 volts, the pedal achieves exceptional dynamics and headroom. The specially designed analogue stages emulate the natural behaviour of an output transformer, allowing the Fairfax to connect notes, respond sensitively and preserve the character of your guitar.
With Drive, Level and the variable Sag control you can shape the character from open and dynamic to compressed or gated. A Bright switch provides additional fine adjustment of the high end. Fairfax covers a wide range of natural tube-gain tones and fits perfectly in both the studio and on the board.
