Epiphone Explorer 80s EMG CW
Product information "Epiphone Explorer 80s EMG CW"
The Explorer first appeared in 1958 and was considered quite daring at the time. A few decades later that very quality became its trademark. By the 1980s it had become the favourite tool of legendary players like The Edge, Billy Gibbons and James Hetfield. The Epiphone Explorer 80s EMG is inspired by the iconic 1984 model and delivers that exact mix of futuristic looks, massive tones and uncompromising attitude.
The mahogany neck with a 60s SlimTaper profile offers fast, comfortable playability, while the rosewood fretboard with 22 medium-jumbo frets provides a classic feel. Mini die-cast tuners and a GraphTech nut ensure reliable tuning stability. A Tune-O-Matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece in LockTone form are fitted so everything is firmly and resonantly anchored to the body.
The typical 80s bite comes from active EMGs: an EMG 60 at the neck and an EMG 81 at the bridge. The sound is powerful, clearly defined and delivers the sustain Explorer models of that era were famed for. Controls are two volume pots and a master tone, fitted with grippy metal knobs. No pickguard is fitted, giving the guitar an elegant, slightly menacing look. The 9V battery for the pickups sits in an easily accessible compartment on the back.
The Explorer 80s EMG is supplied in a high-quality gigbag and is ready for the rehearsal room, stage or studio.

When you think of Epiphone you naturally think of Gibson, since the maker of guitars, basses, amplifiers and accessories has been part of that company since 1957. Epiphone mainly offers instruments in the lower to mid price range. That means beginners can pick up electric guitar and bass classics such as Les Paul, SG, Explorer, Firebird, ES-335 or Thunderbird for little money. There are also instruments from earlier Epiphone eras like Casino, Wildkat, Riviera and Wilshire. In particular, Epiphone's beginner sets for electric guitar, acoustic guitar and electric bass are worth a close look for newcomers.
