Gibson ES-335
For over 70 years Gibson has been building the semi-hollowbody electric guitars of the ES-335 series. With their arched top and back, these guitars deliver a unique sound that is particularly popular in blues and jazz.
Construction typically uses three-ply woods of maple and poplar. To mount the neck, tailpiece and pickups in the body, a piece of solid maple is fitted precisely into the guitar. This centre block also reduces acoustic feedback and extends the strings' decay time, known as sustain.
The electronics typically consist of two humbuckers, which can be individually adjusted via a 3-way switch and four controls. In addition to the standard models, such as the Original or the Modern ES-335, the popularity of these guitars has also led to a number of signature models as well as reissues from the Custom Shop and the Murphy Lab.
