SG Collection In 1961 the Gibson Les Paul was changed radically. The new design featured a new lightweight and slim, double cutaway body. It was later named SG standing for “solid guitar” and has become a hallmark for rock ‘n roll in the 60s. Even though the original Les Paul models returned a few years later, the Gibson SG never lost its fans who love it for its unique design which, to this day, managed to keep its position on the big stages of the rock ´n roll world. SG Special Ever since its introduction in 1961, the SG hasn’t changed a lot. However, the new SG Specials have been equipped with two Humbucker pickups which are sonically similar to the old P.A.F.s It features an Alnico 490R pickup (neck position) and an Alnico 490T pickup (bridge position). Featuring an eye-catching platinum finish, the SG Special Platinum is an absolute highlight of the SG Special series. Another interesting finish available is the popular „Faded finish“ which gives the instrument the looks of a 30 year-old, however still great-looking, vintage instrument that has been played every day for hours whose paint has lost its shine over the years due to attrition, blood and transpiration. In such a case the wood is grounded and then painted. However, it is not provided with any extra layers of clear varnish which then gives you the impression it was a guitar with nitro vanish from the early 60s.
