SE Electronics 2200a II · Microphone

The multi-pattern sE Electronics sE2200a MKII features a pair of handcrafted 1-inch gold-sputtered diaphragms to provide three polar pickup patterns: omindirectional, cardioid and figure 8. The sE2200a MKII uses thes same 1-inch capsule as the sE2200a but with two center terminated diaphragms placed back-to-back rather than one, and allows the microphone to offer multiple pickup patterns. Multiple pickup patterns allow you to use the sE2200aII microphone in virtually any recording situation.

sE Electronics sE2200aII was built to capture just about any sound imaginable including extremely dynamic sound sources like vocals and brass instruments. A highpass filter cuts low frequency rumble and a 10dB pad reduces the gain to record high SPL instruments like an amp stack. Rubbery black paint helps damp metalwork resonances.

It is very unusual for inexpensive microphones like the sE2200a to be used in professional recording studios. Yet the sE2200a is a studio standby and can be heard on many recent recordings. For example, Amy Winehouse's vocals on "Back to Black" was recorded with the sE Electronics sE2200a. Also Ellie Goulding's voice was recorded with the sE2200a on the multi-platinum album "Bright Lights".

  • Multipattern condenser microphone designed for universal use from vocals to drum overheads
  • Based on sE Electronics sE2200a cardioid condenser microphone
  • Dual hand-crafted 1-inch gold-sputtered condenser capsules
  • Selectable cardioid, figure 8, and omnidirectional polar patterns
  • Highpass filter and 0dB, -10dB and -20dB pad
  • Low noise and high SPL handling provides an extended dynamic range
  • Finished in black rubber paint, which looks cool and dampens chassis resonance
