Sabian
No other manufacturer produces more cymbals than Sabian. Head and backbone of the company is Robert "Bob" Zildjian, a direct descendent of the legendary cymbal manufacturer Avedis&Keope, that invented cymbals many 100´s of years ago for the Sultan of Constantinople. The story of Sabian is tied very close to that of Zildjian; up to 1981 it was one company. After the death of Avedis Zildjian in the year 1979 his 2 sons Robert and Armand take over the company. Only two years later Bob Zildjian leaves the family business and founds the company Sabian in Meductic/Canada. The name Sabian is an abbreviation, set up of the first letters of the first names of Bob Zildjians children SAlly BIlly ANdy.SABIAN was founded in late 1981, on the banks of the St. John River in the tiny village of Meductic, New Brunswick/Canada. Here in this quiet peaceful hamlet in eastern Canada, Sabian produces instruments played by some of the world´s most famous players: Neil Peart, Jack DeJohnette, Mike Wengren, Steve Ferrone, Tyler Stewart, Carmine Appice, Chad Smith, John Blackwell, Rod Morgenstein, Rocky Gray, Phil Collins Vinnie Paul, Will Calhoun, Billy Cobham, Bernard Purdie, Evelyn Glennie, Zoro, and Dave Weckl. The first cymbals bearing the ringed SABIAN logo (denoting tonal grooves of a cymbal) emerged from Sabian in early 1982, when that initial pouring of hot, molten bronze was cooled, rolled and hammered out. Thanks to the support of drummers and percussionists around the world, SABIAN continues to make history as the fastest growing cymbal company. You can find SABIAN cymbals in approximately 120 countries! Drummers are not the only musicians that use Sabian. Many percussionists playing in famous orchestras (i.e. the New Yorker Philharmonic orchestra, the Montreal symphonic orchestra or Philadelphia orchestra) use Sabian, as well as many of the world best Marching Bands. The product range reaches from the inexpensive punched cymbals made of B8-Bronze (Sabian Solar, Sabian B8, Sabian B8 PRO, Sabian PRO Series and Sabian PRO Sonix), that are produced using up to date computer aided technologies, all the way up to the cast Cymbals from the high end series (Sabian AA, Sabian AAX, Sabian HH, Sabian HHX). These are made of B20-Bronze and are true masterpieces of craftsmanship, made with love and care. To achieve the extremely high quality standard Sabian runs a series of tests with these high end products. .
Today Sabian is the only volume producer that makes cymbals following the original Turkish tradition. Sabian is more than just a cymbal producer; it’s more of a concentration of committed and gifted individuals dedicating themselves to build the best possible cymbals. With more then 500 different models Sabian offers a perfect range from traditional to innovative sounds.
