Resonator Guitars

Resonator, or resophonic, guitars feature a metal cone over which the strings pass. The resonator is sometimes referred to as a "pie pan". Resonator guitars are designed with 1 or 3 cones, which give the guitar a distinctive metallic twang. Resonator guitars were first played to produce more volume than a wooden soundboard. With the coming of amplification volume was no longer an issue. The distinctive tone of a resonator guitar, often used in country or blues, is now the reason to play one of these guitars.
