Universal Audio OX Amp
The Universal Audio OX Amp is clearly more than just an Attenuator. The functionality goes far beyond that. The OX Amp is a Reactive Loadbox with many built-in microphone- and speaker emulations, allowing you to capture the guitar and, above all, the amplifier very accurately. The OX Amp lets you play a tube amp fully cranked without the neighbours having to hear it.
Reactive Loadbox
Thanks to decades of experience in developing audio hardware, Universal Audio has managed to create a Reactive Loadbox that perfectly captures the dynamics, the tone and the playing feel of an amplifier. This opens up a large number of new possibilities: you can, for example, play a fully cranked tube amp through headphones or record directly into a DAW. It's important to mention that the OX Amp is limited to a maximum of 150 watts amplifier power.
Microphone and speaker emulation
A large part of an amplifier's sound is determined by the speaker. To capture this part of the experience as well, the OX Amp includes many microphones and speaker cabinets. This lets your amp be virtually connected to legendary speakers and recorded with top-class microphones. To make the sound even more realistic, the room ambience around the virtual speaker is emulated and reproduced.
Software
To use the extensive features, the OX Amp offers many control options. Besides the hardware controls, the OX Amp can also be controlled remotely via a free app. The iOS and Android app lets you create profiles and save settings. Up to 6 of your profiles can even be stored on the OX Amp itself and selected and used via a RIG knob without connecting to the app.
Connections
The OX Amp represents a complete guitar studio in a single unit. To do justice to the possibilities the hardware offers, you'll find a variety of different connections on the front and rear of the top box. In addition to the probably most important connection, the headphone jack directly on the front, there are also USB, S/PDIF, Line-Out and a speaker output.

Ox offers the classic load box function when loudspeakers are connected, i. e. the "turning down" of the turned up amp. On the other hand, there is the D. I. -Recording Interface function, which processes the output signal of the amplifier as if the signal had been obtained by precise miking.
Lively playing feel, a reactive response and sound envelope that very authentically resembles the amp/speaker experience. This also and especially when using the Loadbox without cabinet.

Pioneer in audio recording for more than 50 years
Founded in 1958 by Bill Putnam Sr., Universal Audio has long been synonymous with innovative recording equipment. As the favourite engineer of Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Ray Charles and others, Bill was a passionate innovator who is regarded as the father of modern audio recording. Many of his legendary studio and equipment designs are still in use today. B. Putnam was the inventor of the modern mixing console, the multiband audio equaliser and he was the first engineer to use artificial reverb on commercial recordings. Alongside his friend Les Paul, Bill was also involved in the early development of stereophonic recording.
Putnam, known as a driven entrepreneur, founded three audio product companies during his long career: Universal Audio, Studio Electronics and Urei. All three companies built devices that were widely adopted after their introduction and would shape the studio sound for generations. The boutique compressors LA-2A and 1176 and the 610 tube console are among these legends. Artists such as Sinatra, the Beach Boys and Van Halen recorded their studio albums on the 610 console.
Universal Audio was re-established in 1999 by Bill's sons James Putnam and Bill Putnam Jr. The plan was twofold: on the one hand to faithfully reproduce classic analogue recording gear in their father's tradition; and on the other to bring the sound and spirit of vintage analogue technology into the new digital recording tools .
By now impressive effects pedals for guitarists and specialised guitar-recording tools such as the Universal Audio OX are also part of the range and are extremely popular with fans of outstanding tone.

Mein Kaufmotiv: Ich wollte trotz der vielen Möglichkeiten, die einem IRs und weit fortgeschrittene Ampmodeling-Technologien mittlerweile bieten, nicht auf meine echten Verstärker verzichten. Das Gerät ist perfekt, um seine Amps unter lautstärketechnisch sonst suboptimalen Bedingungen in Szene zu setzen. Meine Gitarrenaufnahmen hören sich nun wesentlich professioneller an und die ewige Sweetspotsuche mit Mikrofonen hat erstmal ein Ende gefunden. Ich hätte ein solch realitätsnahes Spielgefühl nicht für möglich gehalten. Ein weiterer positiver Aspekt ist gerade auch die reduzierte Auswahl an Cabs, Mikrofonen und Effekten, da man sich leichter für geeignete Modelle entscheiden kann und nicht endlos am tweaken ist, was meiner Meinung nach der Kreativität abträglich wäre. Dafür ist auch die Software perfekt dargestellt und optisch für Gitarristen sehr ansprechend und sehr einfach zu bedienen. Offene Wünsche meinerseits wären: - Einschleifweg für eigene Effekte - Line in - Die Software als VST-Plugin, nachträglich änderbare Cabs und Effekte - XLR-Outs plus einem dritten für den "Room"-Sound - Der bislang funktionlose USB-Port zur dierekten Verwendung als Interface wäre ein Traum.

Wahrscheinlich das beste Gerät um den zweiten Teil der Gitarrenaufnahme digital zu gestalten, leider nicht für jeden erschwinglich!
